I recently got a 1950’2 I think 7x clear beaver Stetson.very nice but my Churchill 50 much nicer.. the pre 50’s hat are as a rule great. Hard to come by though but great hats
I understand what you’re saying about mink blend. The Larry Mahan 1000x imperial is all mink. This could break the mold. Could also be stiff and worse than their 100x? I came into a modern resistol 200x. Was I think just tried on, not worn. It is super soft, thick and nice. Hat itself is stiff...
solved the problem - I got a hair trimmer and cut my hair very short. Amazing difference. Why was I only one who thought of this. Leave the hat alone and change the head size. I rest my case.
somecGuidance Please
A 1950’s Stetson 7x Clear Beaver. Super Condition
Need to bring it up 1/2 to 1 size larger
Unsure how easy these are to stretch
Can I just stretch it, does it need steam also?
Do these older Holy Grail hats from 50’s have that plastic filament line inside to...
Straw vs Felt experiment in heat
Ok straw was a Stetson 5000x straw. I have been correctly steered away from modern hats by the nice folks on this forum, many thanks.
Felt was a Akubra hare felt, heritage, Burke & zeillis
Temperature was approx 87, I was in shade under tree.
With Stetson I...
We
recently had 2 positive experiences on the bay with you. I think fri - hold the suitcase to save shipping costs.. the Churchill 50 I got ruined me. You guys here are right vintage pre 1960 only way to go. I started with 50’s fedoras which were easier to get pre Covid years. Then I did some...
We’ll tank you for your comments and tips especially about my Churchill.
Can I ask you what you think about the quality if the Stetsons designated 20 or 25? Are they high end by todays standards.
Thanks for the help
I am really asking for answers to questions. My hats are 75% western but I do enjoy fedoras too. I am ametican living abroad.
It is my understanding that the hats from the 1930’s 1940’s and perhaps the 1950’s on the higher end hats can be superb. Some say surpassing even...
most of us will get vintage hats from eBay or Etsy. Few of us go to auctions at sothebys. Well heeled people live in large estate homes for many decades. When they pass the estate or kids will often go to the big auction houses to sell everything. There needs to be some anchor pieces such as...
I agree the 50’s and , 4.0’s hats are wonderful, really but try to find a good one in your size in a color and style that you like. A very hard task even leaving price aside.the 80’s resistol 5x is not a museum piece. They are quite nice, not that hard to find and will give one many years of...
Tried Seratelli 100x. Great value for money. New on eBay about $600. For the money a great value. Serratelli used to make Resistol in their earlier days. The hat beaver felt is not as soft as Stetson el presidente 100x but is nice and dense. This hat should take the weather just fine. They look...
Just got a 1980’s 3x resistol cowboy hat beaver in brown. Hat was new or worn a handful of times at most so like new.
Built of hat was solid. Hat was not very flexible. Beaver felt was soft but not very soft, yet was not scratchy like wool either. Hat looks GREAT.
These are easily found on...
I recently got a 1980’s resistol 5x cowboy hat, rancher I think, cattleman crease. hat was worn maybe once or twice only so like new, I carefully compared this to several other cowboy hats I have, carefully. I would say the 80’s resistol 5x is equal to stetson el patron 30x current version...
