I started buying quailty bands with Allen Edmonds. So by the time I was ready to try Florsheim they sold out and were manufactured in China. I now have AE, Hanover, Alden and Florsheim. They are all great, but I put vintage Florsheim at the top. The green stitching in the enterior is the way I...
B.A. Mason also has large sizes, wide width and narrow width shoes. Not Alden quality but good valuc for their low price. I have a narrow width and have found more choices in Pre owend on Ebay. To me it looks like it was easier to find extreme widths in the past.
I love Adlens most. On fit, feel, quality and longivity they always win with me. I have a pair of Hanover L.B.Sheppaards and Florsheim Imperials from the 1980s and both are close behind.
Both of these companies havn't made quality shoes for 25 years or more. Most shoe snobs rate Florsheim...
Glad I helped. All the colors look great so you can't miss. I'd go calf unless the preowned cordavan is in really mint shape, as cordavan doesn't conform as well to the seond owner.
I too get no better fit than an Alden. A plain toe like the Walker is a "cant miss" on comfort and it's at the top of my list on looks. I'd say the problem is knowinig your color and leather.
I have plain toes in 1980 vintage shell cordovan Hanovers in #8 color. 1980 vintage black Florsheim and...
I must add all three pair of Aldens were via Ebay. One being discounted new and two like new. If the choices were only new full price shoes, I still go Aldens, I just won't have as many.
I have three pair of Alden Shoes. The All Weather walkers are new and I only wore them 3-4 times. I can't say enough good about Aldens, buy them and you'll thank me. I also love plain toe shoes. They work well any time and any place.
I have lived in ND and MN all my life. In the 1950 and almost everyone wore some kind of rubber shoe covering. Today I would guess it's less than 20%. This Winter I saw one older gentleman wear rubber streach overshoes, ( the kind that only cover the bottom half of an oxford), and a little girl...

Here are my LB Sheppard shell cordovan. They curl, don't wrinkle and are very oily. They are my first pair. I know most love cordovan over cowhide, and a few arn't sold on cordovan, considering the price. They are my first pair so don't know where i fall.
I am having the same problem with AE. Any AEs I try don't fit, yet Alden's work great. I am going to try Classic Florsheim V-Cleats, as I hear they run true to size. My problem is I have an a A width and most AE A widths are to wide in the heel for me.
AEs were good to me for years, but we...
So sorry my camera needs my attention, so no pics.
The worst area of leather stress is where my car sholder belt came in contact with the jacket and pulled the outter layer of leather away from the jacket, but not off. I have two other minor areas like it on the jacket.
