This hat is one of my experiments. A natural Indigo dye job that did not turn out as planned. The ribbon dye job worked out well.....but not the felt. I will see if I can make something wearable out of it.
I am pleased to announce that the December issue of HaTalk eMagazine will have my article on how to sew brim binding. I think my wife and I have come up with a format of text and pictures that will adequately explain the process. Stay tuned.
If my memory serves me Steve's is a 2" brim. I try to steer my clients towards that marker. Some want a narrower brim but I think it it too narrow. The Copper felt is for a guy that is 6' tall and I boosted the brim to about 2 1/8" with a medium cupping on the brim so it was the full 2"...
Thank you. It is weird....I am drawn to the pork pie style BUT tome it is the only style that does not look good on my head. They always look toooo small and even if they fit perfectly look like a too small hat perched atop my head. So I have to make them for others and live vicariously...
Here are two hats picked up this morning by my client. Pork Pies, I think this is the 7th & 8th I have made this year....strange as that is double the number I have made in total.
Left: An Usst Burnished Copper 120gr rabbit felt. 2" brim and a 4 1/4" crown all around. Completed with a...

I have switched to embroidered liners. I pay $9 for each embroidery....if I buy 50 at a time. Using vintage Japanese silk my liners cost about $25 complete.
Interesting, there are a few pictures that pop up when the name is googled......Pictures of Goralnick Hats but NO ONE in the pictures is wearing a hat. That is weird.
All of my vintage hats are rabbit save for one Stetson Nutria. All of them are stellar felts and rabbit. They seem to have weathered the many decades of use and are still looking great. I think a great test of a vintage felt is how does it turn out after a full restoration.....from one step...
I have a Stetson LE from 2015, that was sold as pure beaver. It is a beautiful felt, but with the typical Stetson crap trimmings. NO XXX's at all noted on the sweat band.
I received d a big box of vintage flanges a few weeks back. Finally getting around to restoration. This batch is about 1/3 of the lot but the one requiring the most work. Lots of work filling in the cracks and gouges, sanding and now the final Spar varnish coating. The balance just need...
A fellow hatter in Australia received many expressions of interest when he closed up his hat shop. One of the most asked questions is: Would he stick around for a while and train the new owner. I think he ended up selling off his items individually.
I am in Vancouver Canada. Where are you located? There is a fellow here in Vancouver that is selling his new line of brim platers and crown irons.
Both items are about $6000 each (Canadian funds).
