    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

I hand wash mine cold with Persil, Woolite or the Co-op version, short spin and hung over a drying rack with enough air circulation. I also use a wash in proofer in the final rinse, which is very successful. The house smells of damp dog for awhile, but wet wool does smell like that.

Serious floods up here and more rain forecast. Wearing my cream roll neck WP.

    White RAF Roll Neck Sweaters

Been awhile since I was on here; to answer your question, it was extremely strange. I thought it was a hoax really, one designed to click through to some abitrary site, but no, was a genuine complaint from the guy - they had been offering me discounts to buy from them too, but weren't prepared...

Been pretty cold up here recently so my WPs have been getting an outing (no pun intended). Re moth proofing...I have found colibri lavendar sachets work well, but moths are always attracted to the smell of sweat, so my advice is to carefully handwash them. I have a secret ingredient that can...

    White RAF Roll Neck Sweaters

I bought a few of mine from Silverman's in the early 90s, were all Pick & Co though. Funny story, but I bought a long used one labelled Woolly Pully that was just too large; when I went to sell it 3rd hand on eBay I got a the following from a well known outdoor knitwear company "Listing policy...

    White RAF Roll Neck Sweaters

Just love those Pick & Sons versions - having owned many of them and other manufacturers over the years. I have one that is a Size 2 mislabeled, is actually a size 3. Just the time of year to wear them too; seem to be perfectly suited to our English brand of damp and cold weather. Also saw a...

Yes, that was the official colour, sort of a creamy white.

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

Was a bit nippy yesterday morning so wore a 'bone' roll neck WP as in my avatar. Interestingly I saw that OKW Ghillie roll neck has a great triangular patch to re-inforce the neck to shoulder area / seam. Wish they would do the same with the cheaper roll necks, as it helps hold the shape better...

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

I had one recently, was like wearing a carpet, but overkill for UK weather, so went to a new owner.

Very nice. I have a roll neck in a similar style knit - bought on ebay, but I think is a copy of the M1905 jumper. The wool has a hardwearing texture to it and the long roll neck might have driven it's previous owner to part with it.

    White RAF Roll Neck Sweaters

Am not an expert, but here's the label of the 1965 version and one that had a much shorter 4.5in collar (H.K Ltd). There's no mention of NSN on either, even if the numbers are and the boat neck navy smocks often meantion just 'Nato Stock' (see the Turner and Jarvis label) I've had at least 11...

    White RAF Roll Neck Sweaters

Read this thread today..Very interesting. I've had many submarine jerseys - recently sold 2 J&S 1965 versions that were a bit too tight and an unlabelled one. I've kept my '70s Pick & Sons Size 2 which is actually a Size 3. Modern versions, including the odd shaped neck and lightweight wool...

Acquired a nice vintage brown Woolyback jumper with suede patches recently for peanuts. It was unworn, but suede doesn't give me any issues, just needs to be hand washed in woolite, or similar handwashing silk / wool liquid. Have just seen this nice looking WWII type seamans smock jumper on...

By fuddy duddy I mean boring and old fashioned - not hip or geeky. Having seen the Ghille version - it's not bad looking as the patches are functional.

Agree with you about the traditional military style. To be frank, I doubt they'll sell well - look very fuddy-duddy to me and the pricing is too high for that market. The addition of Harris Tweed doesn't make them very desirable either.

Nice J.Pick & Sons submariner. Interestingly I have a Size 2 from them that is much bigger than standard 2, more like a hard to find 3. The modern versions from Outdoor / Kempton don't even come close to this quality and weight. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291919236838?ul_noapp=true

I saw a discount code from Outdoor Knitwear in my junk folder today - celebrating over 70 years of the WP.

Judging from your description about the ribbing, I think I may have had a Dutch WP once - it was a good one, think I ebayed it eventually though. Do you have any of the thicker rib but still WP style with suede patches and raglan sleeves that were popular in the late 70s early 80s? They were...

Saw this Norwegian Woolly Pully on ebay - had no idea Eskimo made these, but it looks similar to the UK variants. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mens-ESKIMO-Jumper-100-WOOL-Ribbed-Knit-GREEN-Size-M-MEDIUM-EXC-/272230083387?hash=item3f622d6b3b:g:H20AAOSwv-NWVHrO I am wearing an Aussie 'Howard Green'...

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

They were popular with the sailing community, so are typically unisex - every now and again I find a decent sized one, but they're not a popular style.
