Got my new Irish Blackthorn today. (Thanks for the link Zombie!) It arrived just in time for me to take it to work. The new handle is a big improvement over the knob. I think it will like it very much.
Pretty even-handled report. I sort of expected Akubra to get bashed.
I'm glad I got my new Stylemaster. I have only had it a couple of weeks and really like it.
Thanks for the link in your post. I've begun to need balance help more and more lately. I just placed my order for the Derby handle Blackthorn. I look forward to receiving it.
Very interesting thread. I've sat here in the middle of the night/wee hours of the morning and read most of it. I have the same cancer that McQueen had and my pain meds aren't letting me sleep.
I don't know much about the current crop of actors. On the whole, I fnd them less than...
Some really great looking noggin' covers, especially the Vintage Silhouette fedora. The workmanship on the custom hats is amazing and when the amount of talent and work required to make one is assessed, they are very inexpensive.
Unfortunately I am not in the league to go custom(yet!). I am...
Welcome to the forum! I'm a new guy here too and just got my first real fedora, an Akubra Stylemaster. Today and tomorrow are graduation days at the university where I work. Since it was a dress up occasion, I wore the StyleMaster. I tried looking at used hats, but the ones I really liked...
After some ups and downs, my Akubra StyleMaster is here!
I made the rookie mistake of ordering the wrong size. I also decided when I saw the acorn color that I didn't like it that much. So I sent it back and exchanged for the correct size and carbon gray color.
It just so happened that...
I've never read that nor heard of it, but I'd much rather have a good stout stick sometimes than be whatever is meant by "fully conscious of my surroundings". The ability to stop and prop up on the stick while looking at the surroundings is quite a pleasure. The stress that a good stick takes...
Blackthorn let down. . .
My blackthorn let me down over the weekend. I'm on some medication that makes me a little unsteady on my feet. If I have to walk any distance, I normally use a stick for balance. I had to run sound and video for a wedding this weekend and decided the blackthorn would...
Looks like a great trip. I'll echo the above, thanks for sharing and letting those of us who don't get to travel have a little vicarious pleasure from your road trip. Lovely pictures and great hats for all!
Blessings for you all.
Thanks for the suggestion. I was able to translate the page, but couldn't really see the sticks that well. If you have another link that shows more detail, please post it.
My river cane/bamboo stick isn't pretty, but it does the job. My days of going far afield are most likely behind me, but...
Canes and Walking Sticks are a topic that could and probably should be a forum or sub-forum. That would open it up for the collectors and users to broaden the discussion. Heck, defensive use of the cane or stick could cover a great many threads. If the Mods are watching, please consider this...
I have a Blackthorn and it is a dandy walking stick. I don't use it often, but if I think I might need to adjust the attitude of an aggressive dog or human it is my preferred stick. Most often, out in the country I will use a hiking staff I from local bamboo/river cane. It is lightweight...
Waiting Stinks! I just received a note that my hat shipped via USPS today. That's great news, of course, but as slow as the mail service is in my area, I dread the wait.
Yes, if a thing is worth doing or having, it's worth waiting for. From all the Akubra Stylemaster suggestions, I'm...
