Wow that's a great hat Bob! A bit darker than the pictures at hatsdirect but still very nice!
If you want to try some different bashes you could have a go at giving it a diamond crown.

Paul, it's a great hat and it suits you well.
I have had some problems with pictures of myself that made my hats look huge. This was mainly because I was taking the pictures in a mirror or by holding the camera out at an arms length, which messed up the perspective. Once I set the camera up...
I just thought I would add this one of me. Not vintage, but probably as close as I will ever come.
Its in the hats section too, but I hope it won't be considered a double post [huh]

Federation snap brim
The Fed doesn't come with a lot of snap but there is some (when my Fed was new and stiff the brim actually gave an audible snap). In the end I turned the brim down a little more using steam, but this is how my Fed looked before that (completely dry bashed).

Congrats on the next hat!
With regards to shaping the brim I just used a little steam on my Federation and turned it down by hand. It settled on the new shape after about 30 seconds.

I think you will have to be lucky to find a decent vintage hat in your price range. However IMHO, if you just want to try the whole look before committing to a more expensive hat, then a nice wool felt might be a good option.
Oh and from my own experience with a...
That is a nice colour for a Fed! :eusa_clap
Being shaved on top I have had the same trouble with the plastic liner sticking to the top of my head, but making a little "dome" in the crown helped a lot. I did have to use steam to get it to stay up though.

Grey Federation
I've been trying on different covers with a leather jacket for the last couple of days. I think the Fed works pretty well, and if I press it down a bit it doesn't even fly off when commuting through Copenhagen on bicycle :)
