Are you talking about the reeding tape that is sewn onto the leather sweat? Which is about 10 stitchs per inch. The reed tape once sewn onto the leather band is than attached to the hat at about 3 stitches per inch. -

The sweatband is absolutely not plastic or bonded. It is Genuine Leather. The only thing I can think of is that you are looking at the reeding tape which is a textile and is sewn on to the back of the leather. Can I ask you where you got the hat?
