Tom,
I saw my name mentioned. I still watch the board, but I don't have as much time lately to participate. We've made several prototypes at our expense and are always willing to provide open crown styles to retailers who wish to carry them.
I listened to that report back in December as well. I contacted them but their cost per pelt was much too high and they weren't willing to come down on price. Too bad.
Yes it is cyclical but it is still moving to shorter crowns and stingier brims. I've opined that we don't have enough offerings in that area as we only have 4 under 2" and 11 over 2 1/2"
They recieved equal exposure with other hats in the catalog. Salesman were required to have samples of the hats to show. However they carry so many lines they usually carry what they can sell. Some had it in their line, others didn't. I think we would prefer all crowns to be open. It would cut...
Out of all profiles that we have the 10 is the most popular with retailers and consumers and the 01 not to far behind. I'll give you a guess to the profile that sells the least. We discontinued the Nostalgia due to low volume. In the 3 or so years that it was offered it never sold more than...
It was a mistake on their part. We own the license for making and selling felt and straw hats under the Stetson name in North America and parts of South America. FWS owns the license to manufacture and sell fabric/felt/straw hats under the Stetson name in Europe. Dorfman Pacific owns the...
No, UPC barcodes are bought in lots. They don't mean anything or belong to anything until we pair it with a product. The Whippet has 8 UPCs 1 for each size.
You can read more about UPC here.

It could have been a prototype or a mistake. Or it could have been made for an account that thought they could sell more with a thinner ribbon. We could have taken it out before it shipped or they could have canceled the order or sent the hat back...
Possibilities are endless because it's...
Are you talking about the reeding tape that is sewn onto the leather sweat? Which is about 10 stitchs per inch. The reed tape once sewn onto the leather band is than attached to the hat at about 3 stitches per inch.
Well that analogy isn't entirely apt. It's a bit like saying table sugar is a man made product to imitate real sugar. They are both sugar, one went through a refining process. Much the same, Shantung is a cellulose product as is "real straw", but Shantung offers a viable way to get...
To quote Aaron from Aaron Hats "...They're simply a way to designate the different quality levels within a given brand. You can't compare a Stetson 4X to a Bailey 4X but you can see and feel the difference between a Stetson 4X, 10X, 20X, etc. The X ratings have never been and never will be an...
to answer a couple of questions:
Currently it is not offered with other ribbon choices. The straw color is a a light tan vs the usual natural. I'll take some suggestions though.
I have no idea how it would do when it gets wet in a downpour. I think it would do fine.
As far as the...
The sweatband is absolutely not plastic or bonded. It is Genuine Leather. The only thing I can think of is that you are looking at the reeding tape which is a textile and is sewn on to the back of the leather. Can I ask you where you got the hat?
