I worked with Mark about 9 years ago on two jackets. One was an Aero Redskin B-3, and one was a
Buffalo hide Aero Californian jacket that I don't see on their website any longer.
Anyway, each jacket was custom tailored to my specs, right down to putting in a cotton, mustard colored
A-2...
I have some gloves from Lands End that are brown leather, with a cashmere lining.
I actually have several pair, as my hand is a true size medium, and Lands End was
the only place that had mediums that actually fit.
I have one pair I have been wearing now for over three years, and they...
I don't "tie" mine exactly.
I wrap mine once around my neck, so that both ends are equal length in the front,
and the "loop" it makes is in the front also.
Because the ends are in the front, they can tuck into my jacket when its zipped up,
and I can pull the loop up over the lower...
Show some pictures. Give some measurements. You won't get a single offer without
showing the item. Would you buy something from someone you don't know, who did not show
the item to you before you paid for it, and didn't give any type of description of that item?
What type of leather is the...
I am going to throw my two cents in here.
If you want a gift from your parents that will last a lifetime, one that will
remind you of them everytime you use it, and you can use it every single day
of the year, no matter what the outside weather/temperature is, then what
about a really nice...
Actually Aero Leather in Scotland does a verson of an A-2 without the
bottom rib nits.
The jacket is an open, straight bottom like you are describing.
Check them out. They are not cheap, but it might be what your looking for.
Its called an HG-5. Here is a picture of it:
Aero...
I have to laugh at the Excelled Vintage G-8.
While it is indeed a nice looking jacket, it states on the Wings site that these jackets are
from 1958, and that they are over 50 years old.
The Excelled Leather and Sheepskin Coat Company was started in January 1960, TWO YEARS
after the...
You can't make this stuff up. I was just looking at the A-10 gloves they
have for sale, and a couple times within the description of the gloves, they have
used the letter "R" instead of the letter "L" in words.
Here's one quote from the page: "A-10 Gloves had be used until frying jet...
I can see if they didn't know about the jackets. But to not know about the
American Rag line of clothing, when I showed it to them on a rack not 5 feet
away from where we were standing talking about it, and then to deny its sold
at the store, is just plain old stupid.
And to top it off...
I went to my local Macy's this past friday (2-6-09) and checked out their
clearance racks, in the hopes of possibly finding one of these cool jackets.
Before I went there, I did check the internet, and although I could find the
American Rag name sold at Macy's, none of the internet sites...
Why not just get a horsehide jacket, like one of Aero's Highwayman jackets,
that is lined with shearling?
Its a waistlength jacket, and they can line it with shearling, and eve give
it a fir collar if you want it that way. They can put zippers on the sleeves
for easy on/off and glove...
Also, a main reason for the use of horsehide was because the country was
using more and more cars, buses and trains for transportation, and the horse
and buggy days were gone.
There were tens of thousands of horses around that were being turned into glue,
and other items, and they had...
Cheap B-3 knock-offs, like the one you posted from Schott, are sold on
e-bay just about everyday for less than $400.00 US.
You can get a halfway decent one from What Price Glory for $350.00 US.
The shearling is not as long as an Aero or Eastman repro, and there is
no acrylic coating on...
One option not yet mentioned is a jacket made from horsehide, with a
shearling lining.
Aero makes one, and can make just about any of their horsehide jackets
with a shearling lining.
With this option, you will get tough leather, abrasion resistance, warmth,
durability, and cuffs...
Have you looked at the What Price Glory website?
Jerry has a Duo-tone B-3 for $350.00 that several people over on the
VLJ forum have bought, and they like it.
Its almost 1/3 the price of the "Museum Quality" one sold by Avirex, and
its also about 1/2 less in weight.
The WPG...
I don't think you are too far off thinking that.
When I bought my US Wings Vintage Cowhide jacket awhile back (before
the cheap closeout/seconds stuff) I needed the sleeves to be shortened
about 2 inches.
I figured the best people to do it would be the people who sell, and say
that...
Mr.H:
If I were you, here is what I would do.
Take your current Aero Highwayman, zip it up, and lay it flat on a bed,
with the zipper facing up.
Then, measure it from one armpit seam to the other, across the chest.
If you double this number, that is what the total chest...
