Around here, it seems to be equally tough to get people to wear a fedora or bowler, and Homburgs are an even tougher sell. Telescope crowns and stingy brims a bit easier than other crowns and longer brims.
Kangol 504s, I have more success getting people to actually wear regularly.
I figure...
I recently bought one of each. The Deluxe felt is smoother to the eye and touch. The sweatband is a nicer, softer leather that I think will last longer.
My thought of getting the Deluxe when it comes in the color I want was a good one for me. I like the carbon grey color a lot, though, so I...
Probably wise. Try it first, if at all, on a hat you don't care about.
I actually looked at toilet seats at Home Depot (with hat in hand). lol Shape's not too bad on some, but the dimensions are wrong.lol
I think I did come across a source of plastic flanges on the web, maybe it was...
I wrote the above with the hat right side up. You can also do it with the hat upside down, without the foam brim ring (see text below). The brim is, in either case, curled up (relative to the crown) all the way around.
I posted most of the text below a while back. There were pics, they seem...
Here's what worked to add curl to brims for me:
Cut a 3/8" or 1/2" (1/2"gives more curl) strip of foam weatherstripping as long as the circumference of your brim. Tape the ends together, and arrange on an ironing board so that your hat's brim's edge, placed atop the foam, is resting on the...
The Fed Deluxe came shipped in a typical sturdy white cardboard hat box.
The Campdraft and regular Fed they put together in a not-a-hat box, more like a regular shipping box, but with cheap flimsy brown cardboard. I pitched that box.
Next time I order from them (this was hatsdirect), i...
I have an old Stetson bowler. To me, it is a daily wear item. I wear it with just about anything. I think historically it was mainly an every-man, every-day kind of hat. It is my wife's favorite, she smiles every time I wear it.
Let's not forget punctuation. IM, SMS, phone keyboards, and popular culture have put the comma and period on the endangered species list in many places.
I enjoy reading about all the things people say "off the top of their heads" about hats and hat wearers. I don't have one to add today, but I will keep an ear out.
I have two thoughts, one about behavior and one about opinion of self - a couple things I have slowly learned from and about...
They showed snippets of tape of different hats. One was wool I think (the "crushable" stamp in the crown). The 30X they showed will sell for a lot more than a Pinnacle. It's not crushable:eek:
I use these rests in hat boxes, since I don't like how you can get a shiny line on the brim using the provided cardboard rings in the box. But they slide around in there with the hat on them, which is no good.
So a couple nights ago, I took some nylon wire ties, scissors, and a hand drill...
You're in luck. Two things to do: go to your local Burlington Coat Factory. Buried somewhere in there will be a cluster of hat racks. Veyy inexpensive, and probably nothing you will want to buy. But a fun place to try out a number of different styles with a friend or two. Pay attention to what...
Part of the issue may be that you have the camera zoomed wide. That makes your face look larger and rounder and the hat shorter and more tapered because of the distortion from the wide angle.
Just a thought.
Yes, I like Moonstone a lot too. It was my first choice in the Deluxe, but there was a 6-8 week wait on my size in Moonstone. They had the 3 I picked in stock.
I am a little surprised, but the Campdraft is about tied with the Fed for my affections. The crowns are similar enough to be a...
My ship(ment) came in! I just received a "tawny fawn" Campdraft, a "carbon grey" Federation IV, and a "dark brown" Federation Deluxe IV. :D
I got one of each since I wanted to compare all three hats.
From a once-over:
All of them are rounder than my long oval head. The Deluxe fits the...
Very light gray - how?
I've been looking for a fedora in this color. But I don't want one full of powder to get that verr light gray / silver color. Is the fur bleached or dyed? Anyone know of non-custom (e.g. Akubra) hats in very light grays for comparison?
Thanks!
One set of criteria in line with OP
Mainly outdoor hat, for leisure activities and yardwork in the sun. 110*F max. Needs to be washable, will get dirty. Needs to provide better crown cooling than Tilley LTM 8-9 - they are mesh, but so thick to keep sun out that not much air gets through...
House broom followed by Hoover vac. Or if really dirty, just run it through the wash cycle in the clothes washer. Wear it when showering. No, just kidding.
I find that having a dark horsehair brim brush and a light one work very well for me. I don't use the other, softer "crown" brushes. I...
Maybe this is one of those English vs American word definition differences...from the free dictionary http://www.thefreedictionary.com/jaunty
jaun¬?ty (j?¥nt, j?§n-)
adj. jaun¬?ti¬?er, jaun¬?ti¬?est
1. Having a buoyant or self-confident air; brisk.
2. Crisp and dapper in appearance...
