    Hat sizing strips...

I'd like something that won't fall out every time I remove the hat. Suitedcboy makes a good point regarding the adhesive. What's the best way to keep the pads in that doesn't involve an adhesive that turns to a tarry mess?

    Hat sizing strips...

I inherited a fedora that is too large. I was thinking of buying some bicycle helmet padding to snug up the fit. It occurs to me that foam weather stripping is essentially the same. Is there any reason why I wouldn't want to use it inside the hat? thanks.

    Overcoat sizing question

I wear a size 36S suit. It's my understanding that overcoats are sized the same. I'm looking to buy one online, and wonder if something marked 36L would be appropriate. I don't know which measurements would be different relative to a 36S. The length of hem, and length of sleeves would be...

Could I supply my own leather for an Aero jacket?

I guess I mentioned "Aero" since I know their work to be of the highest quality. It occurs to me that I might find something local. Are there recommendations for something in the New York area? Schott is here, but I don't think that they do custom work. BTW, I don't think that Aero offers...

Could I supply my own leather for an Aero jacket?

I like the "Stuart". I don't see it listed among their offerings, though. Was it renamed? If not, would they be able to do a one-off? Which current design do you think comes closest?

Could I supply my own leather for an Aero jacket?

Those last pics look great. As for the "distressed" look, I'll take your collective word on it. You know more about this sort of thing than I do. Also, I didn't know that they offered 'roo. I'll have to go back and check their site. Thanks.

Could I supply my own leather for an Aero jacket?

The Aero jackets are top notch. I can't seem to like the standard color offerings, for some reason. My ideal jacket would have some irregularity to the color. In the link attached, one of the hides is done in a "whiskey" color. This seems ideal, as is the variation in color. I especially...

    Pecard's Nubuck and suede spray

I recently posted on "distressing" a suede jacket. The more I think about it, the less I want to risk ruining the jacket. I'm thinking of just weatherproofing it, and leaving it as-is as far as texture, color, etc. I decided to start a new thread, since it's a new direction for the project...

    how do I distress suede?

Here's a How well did the oil dry? After a few weeks, did you need to worry about it getting onto upholstery, etc.?

    how do I distress suede?

I have a suede jacket that I want to "distress", weatherproof, and, if possible, darken a few shades. It's perfectly fine if the knap is flattened. I contacted the owner of Pecards (who was extremely helpful). He said that I might want to use "leather boot and shoe care" (link at end). This...

    "trapper" hat

well, I wrote an elaborate message that seems to have gotten lost. I'm looking for a hat to be worn in the deep woods, not around town. I'm looking at synthetic shell real fur trapper hats from "Fur Hat World" and "Mad Bomber". Any thoughts on quality differences? Metal vs plastic buckle...

    Trapper Hats?

Trapper style hat I'm going to buy a "trapper" hat for excursions onto a frozen windy lake this winter. I've narrowed the choices to the "Supplex Bomber with Rabbit Fur" by Mad Bomber and the "B-52 Aviator Hat with Rabbit Fur" by Fur Hat World. Of concern to me are quality and buckles. I...

    current production tilley hats

I've only just heard of tilley hats, and know little about them. A few have said that the older ones had a less-stiff brim, and were made to far higher quality standards. any truth to this? thanks. edit: I'm looking at the t3 or t4. I might be going to the tropics, and need to protect...

    Question about Aero Stuart

I don't see the "Stuart" offered by Aero anymore. I emailed them to see if it could still be made. I do have two reservations about the jacket, and wonder if anyone can answer: Would the button front let wind in? I'm thinking this might be a drawback to a zipper. If this is the case, a...

Enough to make a grown FLer cry. Tell us your worst finds or ruined clothing stories

well, this is more like a ruined accessory. A friend of my father's attended an officers function in a Navy uniform. He used his sword for the first cut in a cake, and then resheathed it. When next he tried to remove the sword (one year later) from the scabbard, he found that the cake had...

Question of those that own Aero jackets...

I see that most Aero jackets have buckles on the sides. Do you find that your sleeves brush against them as you walk? Am I right to think that Aero would leave them off if I asked them to do so? Thanks.
