Optimo
BINGO! I new it started with an "O" and Optimo it is! Thanks guys, I've heard nothing but good things about them and the other posts confirm what I've heard.
I really hate the search engine here on Fedora Lounge, and cannot find a thread on hat restoration sources without going through 500 threads, So I decided to start a thread on the subject.:rage:
I need to find a good hat restoration source in the Chicago or Milwaukee area. I know there has...
Classic Colonial Panama
Randy,
I bought the Classic Colonial Panama, made of toquilla palm. This is the style I always pictured when I hear Panama Hat. I don't know if it was an over stock or what, but I did pay $34.99 plus shipping...
I couldn't agree with you more on the Montechisti Ultrafino traditional Panama hats! I just received one today from them off of ebay for about $40.00 and it looks like an original. Very light weight and very fine weaving. It even has the classic crease (upwards) in the center of the crown. I'll...
Hat sizes
Now that you know the proper method to measure and have the measurement, just go to Miller Hats web site and get the size. Their conversion chart also has metric which helps when getting hats from European sellers and dealers.:eusa_clap

Fire at Little Bohemia
Looks like the filming ground to a halt today when a fire started at Little Bohemia:

Hat Brim
Sounds like we're all on the same page here. One observation I have also made is that if a fedora is left on a flat surface with the brim down, the weight of the hat on the front brim will give it an unsightly 'S' curve. I have seen this happen to hats and it looks terrible.
PE
I'm going to jump over to this thread since we have two going. Here's a link to more images as the crew works here in Oshkosh this week:

The set up in Oshkosh looks really well done and looked good down in Columbus...
A-2
I have never liked the Schott A-2 jacket from an authenticity point of view. If you want and authentic A-2, I would get an Eastman. The US distributer is History Preservation Associates and you can order from them at:

Old Fashioned Girl,

Robert Taylor?
I've had a couple of people tell me I resembled Robert Taylor. My avatar is an actual image of me, by the way. I wish I looked as good as Robert Taylor did!
Hats
Great comments and leads on hats here. I have to agree that quality makes all the difference in the world, and there are some good quality new-made hats now.
I became quite discouraged whenever I would stop at the hat store in Madison, Wisconsin and see their selection of Wool felt hats...
I picked up an original black fedora from the 30s, but gave it to a friend a few years ago. I preferred wearing my gray Stetson fedora, which has a slight blue cast, with my blue pin-stripe suits. Now I wish I had it back, because I think it would look great with my black tuxedo. Live and learn.
Horror Story
I have to share this story. My wife and I went out to dinner with some friends and we all ordered martinis. My wife told the waitress, "VERY dry martinis with three drops of vermouth", and to emphasize, I added, "Dry vermouth, and three drops means three drops." She returned...
Os-kee-Wow-Wow
What Harry and Bonnie forgot to mention is that I am an alumni of the University of Illinois and I couldn't resist the temptation (you'd never catch me dead in one of these coats...but our good friend Tom Sanders had a beauty).
Old Princeton yells her Tiger,
Wisconsin, her...
