Evening all,
With the recent demise of Ronnie Biggs I'd thought I'd mention a story about the greatest train robbery of all time.
Seriously needing funds to continue the fight against the Germans, in July 1944, the Resistance in the Dordogne (S.W. France) aided by local railway workers...
Recently I came across an amazing story of an American Pilot by the name of Joel Macpherson who parachuted out of his stricken plane
and spent several incredible months with the Resistance in the South West of France. I have translated the story for my blog about the Resistance
and here's the...
Have been researching recently the fantastic story of Michael Mcpartland, one of the 6,000
troops who stormed Dieppe in August 1942. 4,400 were killed, captured or missing in action.
He was captured, imprisoned and tortured but managed to escape, make his way down to
the Charente and spent...
Hi all,
I Have been researching the amazing story of Herbert Brill, an American who worked with the Resistance
from January to September 1944. Here's a link to the article I have written :

Alain.
Happy new year to all.
Over the Christmas period I have been researching the incredible story of 'Operation Cadillac' - the massive parachute drop in the south west of France on the 14th of July 1944 made by 349 USAAF Flying Fortresses escorted by 524 RAF Spitfires. 3791 containers filled with...
Thanks for posting about this, somehow it has got under my wartime 'radar'!
Whether it could have ever happened or not it's always interesting to think how history could have changed by small events.
The trailer looks promising so let's see!
Alain.
I posted on my blog about the French Resistance some photos of a 1944 German map of Royan in France that had been found by the Resistance and then used to mark German machine gun posts and mines before the Resistance finally pushed the Germans out of Royan in april 1945. Anyway! A French forum...
That's a fantastic link there and one I did not know of. I shall forward it on to my friends in France and lets see what happens.
The father-in-law of my friend published three books in the 70's and 80's about his resistance group and one of the books was
recently re-published keeping the...
Thank you for the welcome. The photos are of La Brigade RAC / A.S. Dordogne-Nord and were taken in may 1944
at one of the clandestine 'camps' near to Thiviers in the Dordogne, south-west France.
At this time France was still most certainly occupied, no towns or areas had been liberated so as...
Last year I spent an incredible day with the family of a french resistant in the south-west of France.
I had the honour of being shown some amazing photos taken in that region of resistance camps in May 1944,
photos of which I have been very kindly allowed to take copies of.
Here are some links...
Very sad news, but what a grande dame!! She parachuted into the Auvergne with a million francs in her handbag and fought alongside 7000 maquisards. I can strongly recommend Russell Braddon's book 'Nancy Wake. Merci pour tout 'La souris blanche'.
Evening all. To add to the excellent list of films mentioned two great films were made just after the war -
'Bataille du Rail' (1946) by Rene Clement and
'Au Coeur de l'Orage' (1948) by Jean-Paul Le Chanois.
