Sorry it took so long, we're moving to a new house at the same time I started a new job...
thank you all for your help and advice!
I'll try to get on later this week to discuss it more...
PS - you can see in a close up he had some new tread put on them before passing them on to me: at 78 he...
No no no, I in no way intended to imply that those that went to public schools "have no values..." and I'm sorry JB if that's how it came across...
As I said in the intro, this was
My mother was a teacher, my grandfather was a teacher, my great grandfather was a teacher & regional school...
Well, it's too late for today's deal (though I do greatly appreciate your timely response Mr. Lyles) but I'll try to get a photo up over the weekend. After all, not only are they nostalgic as my grandpa's shoes, I really like them myself...
I searched the entire site to find the right thread to ask my question in, not seeing it I made my own; Moderators feel free to move this thread to wherever it need go, and my apologies if there is something like it already out there!
I have a pair of Vintage Wing-tips my grandfather gave me...
I guess I'll jump in with a few questions... ;)
1. This thread is about hats, right, or is it just any questions?
2. I appreciated the guide for hats+suits, but it seemed to imply Fedora wear rather than Flat-caps... was there a "guide" to color-coordinating flat caps with your suit?
My suit...
I agree with Kyboots... as impressive as that is my budget is much smaller (my taste runs more towards the 1890-1830 style lounge anyway, but I would like that much space to work with...)
I am lucky in one respect - when we move back to Europe we'll be living in an area that's transitioning...
see, in my case it's more for self preservation... while we are otherwise 100% compatible, I am a devout History buff who is especially taken with the Adventure & Grace of the Golden Age, & my wife is a somewhat "crunchy" modernist.... we agreed that she can decorate the house, but this one room...
Had a chance to buy a car at a show few months back...
(Not the actual car I looked at, just a photo for reference)
1934 Ford Model 40 Sedan
The man wanted $1,900 for it, but dropped it to $1,500 when he found out how much I love the old cars... the interior would need complete refurbishing...
Anybody up?
I've been absent, sadly absent, from the internet for quite some time, and now after nine months of being the "pregnant-woman's-husband" I find that I can't sleep for more than 20 min at a time... lol, I suppose that's good prep for when the baby's born, but it's currently allowing...
"More please?" "More?! You DARE to ask for more?!?!?!?!" :o "As a matter of fact, yes I do!" [huh]
Figured I'd give the thread a bump, see what's been found since 2013 rolled around... ;)
I would like to clarify: I said "vintage values", not "Golden Era"... :p
My grandfather's community in MN had quite a few home-schoolers, and especially during the Great Depression and WWII, when Teachers were in short supply... Even for those who were in "conventional" school, their families...
While cruising another thread I got into a discussion about Home-schooling, and decided it was time to have a place on TFL where people can come to discuss resources, challenges they face, get ideas for special projects, or even just "ask an 'expert' " if they're interested in homeschooling but...
Until I can afford the SIG P229SAS I have my eye on,
my edc is my uncle's Kel-Tec P11 (9mm) he's loaning me.
Although I prefer "real-steel" I have to say, that KT really "disappears" in a yaqui-slide at 4:25, though eventually I intend to get a holster like this one
Ms. Betty, that's EXACTLY the point: he is clearly an imbecile!
Sadly, that's actually (whether he intended it to be or not) a "real" flirting technique that some guys use, and even worse, at times to good effect! :eeek: (one of the many tragedies of modern "ladies", they settle, instead of...
Absolutely! Although there are some things I would do differently, my wife and I (she was also a homeschooler! :D ) definitely plan to home-school our kids!
Maybe we should start a home-school thread on TFL... ;)
