I agree with what several have said here...it seems that having decent manners is now seemed as "old-school" or vintage. As for looking older, I get it all the time. I don't mind at all. I'd rather be thought of as an "old man" any day, as long as they recognize me as an old man with style...
Well Yeps....I got my hair cut today as well. Unfortunately, mine didn't go as planned. There are few barbers here, and I went to the one I've used the most before I decided to change my hairstyle to something more than a buzz cut. As you may have guessed, he isn't accustomed to period styles...
I, for one, am intrigued by what I've seen. It reminds me somewhat more of Blade Runner than Dark City, but still has a different feel from either. It seems a bit diesel-punk, unlike Blade Runner's future setting...but it doesn't necessarily seem to fit totally into the Golden Era either...
I think my hair is a little too fine to put that much weight on it. It goes flat if I add too much Murray's for extra hold on top of the Groom&Clean. I'm still working toward that perfect amount...and getting some more length on top to get some of these wild spots to lay easier...lol
Since the original posts, I've tried a few different products including a water-based generic pomade, and Murray's original. So far, I have settled on Groom&Clean. It gives me adequate hold, though I could not be using enough, and both I and my wife like the scent. It also is easy to get the Don...
My newest cut and style is on my avatar. Just now starting to grow out a "businessman's" cut. Likely move along to the "professional" once I get some length there.
Thanks Widebrim for the welcome. I appreciate finding a forum that's full of like-minded individuals, as DapperChris stated. I hope to contribute at some point, but loving the education I'm already receiving in the threads.
Hey guys and gals...love this style. Where can one find current happenings in the Rockabilly scene? Being from Southeast, Ky....I'm almost cutoff from all things vintage and retro. I have to go out of town just to breathe, if you know what I mean.
I have Facebook, and I usually enjoy a good debate or themed discussion from time to time. I'd love to have some fellow Golden Era lovers on there. Hit me up for my link on PM.
Hello all! I think this is a superb idea! Glad I joined and found this thread. I would love to have a penpal, male or female. For interests sake here's a short bio:
I am a 32-year-old married father of one energetic 3-year-old little boy. I have a great many interests from movies, music...
Thanks for the reply guys. I really appreciate the feedback. I have looked briefly at the pomade and brylcreem boards, but most posts speak of them helping their full, thick hair be manageable. I've had the buzzcut for a while to help with the thinning....but since I still have some up there...
Hello gents! I'm new-ish to the scene, and trying to get my feet wet in all things vintage and gentlemanly. I have some things under my belt, but my hair isn't one of them. I have short, somewhat wispy hair. It's rather unruly, and because it's so light, fly-aways are an issue. I currently have...
It really was quite a great film. Being from the South myself, it had such a wonderful nostalgia for me. I, of course, have always been told the stories of the "good old days," but to see a period piece that was so nicely done gives weight to those visions of grandeur...
Hello all. My name is Seldon, I appreciate an active forum about the good things in life...even if I am celebrating them 50 years late. I have been an enthusiast for quite some time, but have only been "hell-bent" more recently. I came this route via Badger and Blade wet-shaving forums, and with...
Please don't flog me, but I just watched Gone with the Wind for the first time this weekend. It was an absolutely amazing film! I am only now learning to appreciate the films of the Golden Era. I have been a fan of the era for quite some time, but my focus had been on film noir, and other of the...
