Sound advice, thanks. Maybe instead of a hot soak, just put it through a warm wash and then a dryer spin with a softener sheet. I suspect the latter's heat will make more a difference in shrinking. It's a roll of the dice.- Klaatu

Wonder what effect soaking these in hot water will have. Details on site include: Outer: 12.5oz jungle cross fabric, 100% cotton; Inner: 70% wool, 30% polyester; and Dry clean only. Usually take a 40 but am likely to buy a 42 hoping the soaking will shrink it to the perfect size. Concerned a...- Klaatu

Thanks, so I've read here. Vintage jackets are usually only a fraction of a new jacket's price and are often of better quality. Clothing is one of the few items worth buying used. Trick is to wait long enough and to pull the trigger when one comes along. Ebay is good for this kind of stuff...- Klaatu

Finally settled on an older, Thinsulate insulated LL Bean Flying Tiger from eBay. This is the one with a "Made in USA" tag and a one-piece back.
