Currently reading "Down and Dirty Pictures: Miramax, Sundance, and the Rise of Independent Film", and interesting book, mainly based on Miramax's gossip :)
What amazes me the most is the amount of crap some people take in order to "be on the business".
Don't know what the poster got, but I'm pretty sure posted that pic as a reference to show the style of leather jacket.
As Weston said, even if it is a repro, it is a good find :)
And if it is an original...
The only thrift stores I visited (in the US) were on Manhattan... Not a place where you might accidentally bump onto a WWII A-2 jacket just "lying around", I guess... At least, not for the past 30 years or so... Perhaps during the 1950's.
Hi there,
I usually post on another forum, Arstechnica, which is more technology based than this one, out of curiosity, I have searched for "A-2 jacket" on the Search page, and found this:
Thrift Store Find of the Century! (pics, WWII A-2 Jacket content)...
Never been a "fan" of G-1 jackets, but after reading this thread, I must say that I find the notion that the fur might age as well as the leather, amazing.
Thanks!
Thanks for the replies.
fortworthgal, if possible, I would really appreciate if you can post some of the info from the book.
Spitfire, I agree with what you posted, but, ITOH, for what I read, A2 jackets were really commodities, even during WWII.
Hi there,
I have a question regarding the leather jackets used on WWII (no matter what type), the soldier (pilot, etc) that got one, was "forced" to shine it? Sort of the way that boots were?
If that was the case, what product did they use?
This is of course, leaving aside a combat...
Damn humidity!!
We are slowly drifting to summer around here... There is no worst thing than a hot & humid summer in Buenos Aires.
No jacket weather at all, at least until May next year...
Thanks for the replies, I was sort of expecting that answer... Basically: "Use, use, use, come hell or high water"...
I guess that my doubt was because it was a General on the picture, he might not be forced to "live" with the jacket on.
Hi there,
Looong time lurker, and first time poster.
I have seen this picture from another thread:
I wonder, what kind of usage does it take to get the type of "marks" that the leather jacket has, particularly on the arms, it sort of looks like an accordion.
Do you believe it was...
