Thank goodness for an opposing point of view with regard to aero. The constant sheepish gushing about them and their products on this web site is downright creepy. It reminds me of my kid's Spongebob movie when Plankton gains mind control over the Bikini bottom citizens and forces them to build...

Love the LW Ryder? Consider a Johnson Leathers.
Yep, love the LW Ryder. Owned one in very heavy cowhide. If you like the Ryder, consider a Johnson Leathers M200 and M200L (27" longer back) for half the price of a LW. I took ownership of a M200L that was made in 3.5 "SFPD cowhide" just before...
Choose another color/leather
My experience with Aero cordovan was not so good. It had a very strong chemical smell that never went away, and the color bled on my leather car seats. I sold the jacket. This may have been an anomoly, I admit.
My Aero half belt in "Cordovan" ran like a track star, all over my nice dove-grey leather car seats. And, the stains are there to this day, even after dedicated efforts to remove them. And, no, it was not wet.
I wore a custom LW Suburban in 2.5 goat. It was lovely. I purchased it used, but you would never know it. It was light weight, tough, and wonderful. I lament that I sold it. My next new purchase will be a LW custom Ryder in his heaviest goat. Great stuff.
Not necessarily. The "batting," as you call it is sometimes placed between the leather and the relatively thinner liner to improve warmth, not always to present a perception of thickness. Two of my LW 4.0 cowhide jackets have an inner thick cotton lining that improves their cold-weather...
Love Vanson products, but will probably not order new from them again. 8 months to receive my Enfield was silly, in my opinion. Such is the law of supply and demand, which seems to favor Vanson and not the customer, at the moment. All that can change, quickly. On the other hand, their quality is...
OK, if you dig for details and assume some risk.
Some rules I use for purchases outside CONUS: 1) never fall in love with the item being considered. Emotions cloud judgment, 2) always ask for detailed information about sizing, condition, return policies, etc. If my questions are not answered...
I agree that LW's owner is sometimes abrasive. I have several LW jackets, some custom, others stock. No matter what you say or believe, there is no equal in workmanship and materials. He does not suffer fools. You have to know what you want, and you must be willing to pay. I am not a big HH fan...
I own a deerskin car coat that I purchased two years ago while in London. It is black, about 1.2 thick. I was instructed to care for it and treat it with any conditioner that is appropriate for naked cowhide. I used Fox Creek's house brand conditioner and the results were excellent. I was told...
Yes, full disclosure.
I cannot be 100% certain, but I don't think any chemical was applied to the outside of the jacket. The smell seemed to be strongest coming from the inside, and it was not the lining. I just assumed, maybe incorrectly, that the smell was a function of the tanning...
All right, I have to ask. I have read (ad nauseum) so many excellent reviews of Aero's FQHH on this site. And yet, I sold my 3/4 half belt in HH because the fit was relatively poor for my build (pretty normal), the hide was cold, after six months I could no longer tolerate the chemical smell...
I received the jacket and have determined that, compared to my other high-quality pieces, the Hugo Boss's construction is very good, the fit is almost perfect, but the goatskin is fairly thin. For the price, I did OK. It's a keeper, but will be worn mostly on mild temp days. For the record, I...
Just curious if you might have experience with Hugo Boss jackets?? I just purchased one NWT via Ebay for about $150, in goatskin. The photos suggest that it is quite nice. I understand the risks using Ebay, but $150 seemed like a pretty good bargain, and I like a little risk now and then. Their...
As one who appreciates, owns, and has owned and sold many of the best leather jackets (e.g., LW, Aero, Fox Creek, Schott, Vanson, etc.), I am always in search of jacket perfection, which includes an assessment of overall value. My new order is being made, even as I write, by Johnson Leathers. I...
