I just received one of these and I am very happy with it. It compared favorably with my vintage parabuntal.

Nice part, in addition to all of the other reasons to like living in Milwaukee, is Brass Rooster. One of my customs made from vintage 1955 Mallory hood in taupe. The "silver" ribbon was my idea; when John picked it out and laid it on the hood, there was no question it was a fabulous choice.
I...
They do! Look at the Pure... four different colors available, 100% beaver. Of course it's $395 MSRP....

I don't see the modern Stratoliner thread anywhere nor have I necessarily seen mention of this fantastic new development from Stetson... the Stratoliner B.
For those who have followed me before, you know I like two things: a good factory crease and a hat with a decent amount of stiffener. This...
I stumbled across it quite by accident. I was looking at Strats on the Stetson store site and noticed the "Pure" version (this one is 100% beaver) for 25% off. Since it's a $400 hat I jumped on it. I always wanted one like this....
That's what I use mine for too, for the most part. Not that I would necessarily take a long walk in the rain with one (that's what the txapela is for), but for building to car and back, they work fine for that.
I alternate between two modern Stratoliners, the low-priced Strat in silver belly that is sort of pinkish, and the Pure (beaver) in alabaster. My fancier hats including Borsalinos, Beaver Brand customs, and Brass Rooster customs, stay in the hat closet. I still need to cover my head, but feel...
It is my firm belief that no vintage had was made so soft it was mushy but rather that they were handled and cleaned so many times there is little to no stiffener left.
I have owned (and still do) Stetson Stratoliners of some vintage and they are not mushy. If you squeeze them, they will change...
I'm between 7-1/8 and 7-1/4. In general, Stetson runs a little large, but they do shrink over time. I had to stretch mine a little bit. You don't really know how long a hat has been sitting in a warehouse or stockroom.
As for how thin, it's the same thickness as the least-expensive Strat. I...
My head is a definite "German Oval" and the profile looks like an egg!
But this hat is fitting pretty well, quite happy.
Fedora stiff is not the same as Western stiff, thank dog.

Received mine today. I had lucked into 25% off on Stetson's site, so I jumped on it.
Been wearing it in the house, longer I have it on, the better it fits. Those of you who want soft hats, you're out of luck. Those like me who prefer the...
Aren't you the fancy pants?
I'm happy with my three because you aren't finding those colors today. As for "cardboardy", if they were stiffened with shellac like the old days, then they might be. I like a brim that makes noise when I snap it.
Johnny Mac, as I call Mr John McLaughlin at the Brass Rooster, has vintage Stratoliner flanges, so we reflanged it properly, and as for blocking... it does what it wants to do. It's not perfect but it resists what you want and does what it wants. You learn to live with it.
