Here's an odd one; an old bowler with back bow. I'm inclined to think the ribbon isn't original and it's not in very good shape but still interesting...
Thanks guys. When I said excessive handling I was primarily meaning wearing the same hat for the whole winter. It's a very warm hat and fits quite well so given the current weather I'm rather enjoying wearing it, plus it's my only black fedora. Perhaps I'll give it a good brushing on a weekly...
I've got a question; I recently got my first velour fedora and after thinking about it I started wondering: will the felt lose it's finish from excessive handling and, if so, would brushing the hat after wearing help this?

I wonder, is it possible that the hat was made by HATCO and, who I'm guessing owned Knox by the late '50s when I think this was made, simply used this crest in the hats they produced as "store brand hats"?
Hey guys,
I recently bought a couple of vintage fedoras, one offline, and another in an antique store; they were sold at two different locations, Stix Baer & Fuller, and Kaufmann's in Pittsburg. While neither one has a manufacturer name, they both have the same crest in the crown of the liners...
Thanks guys, I'm really happy about having gotten these, especially the Lee. It's nice to know what the colors mean as far as quality goes; anyone care to hazard a guess as to the age of the hat?

The other two hats I found were a 50's Stix Baer & Fuller with Cav edge, and a not-so-old Barlesoni with a bit of a pencil curl to the edge of the brim.

Yesterday was a crazy hat day; I decided to make the rounds of the various antique stores and wound up with three new hats! One is a dark brown Lee fedora, it has a very thin Cavanagh edge and the felt is very soft and floppy. It's got almost a velour like feel to it. The sweatband is made of...
Thanks Dane, that will come in handy for sure! :)
It's not really in bad shape, it seems to just not have been stored very well, and there's a rather obvious stain on the center-top front portion of the pinch which, if I can clean up, will make the hat virtually immaculate.
Thanks guys, I'll probably try the spot cleaning tonight and see if I end up with light spots. I suppose I'll just go for the full-on naptha bath if that's the case. I just figured I already have the lighter fluid so I can at least try that out first. I'm looking to clean what appears to be a...
Sorry, sorry; I didn't think I was being rude. Just offering an explanation for why I had done it that way; though I suppose you can't ever tell how a person really means to say something over the internet. One of the downfalls to not being able to hear vocal inflections and such..
Thanks for...
Well, seeing as the brim was almost entirely flat, snapping the front down just looked stupid on me. The way I have it currently is the only way I could make it look halfways ok. The brim really needs a deeper flanging in my opinion but, since I don't own one I can't do that....
