Some of you may already know this, but if you look on the bottom back flap of Hollywood and Vogue patterns, the date is stamped on the bottom. The last two numbers are the year. Check it out.
Here's how I discovered it...
1960s pattern. Size 18 1/2, but runs quite huge. I had to take mine in quite a bit. Envelope top is slightly tatty, but pattern is complete and has already been cut out. $7.00
Early 70s. Never opened or made by me, but sold to me as complete. $4.00
1950s teenage skirt. Never...
I bought this lovely pattern a few weeks ago at Jo-Ann's and only just realised it isn't in my size! I mistakenly bought a 6-8-10 instead of a 16. It's from the "Vintage Vogue" pattern line and it dates from 1935. The pattern is still folded up and has never been opened. It retails for $25...
I'm probably the last one to discover this, but I thought I'd pass it on to anyone who hasn't heard about this yet:
http://www.archive.org/details/CompleteBroadcastDay
A complete broadcast day from 6am to 1:30am was transcribed on September 21, 1939 from a Washington DC radio station. I...
I'm moving next weekend to a swell apartment building in Philadelphia. If you don't mind, I'd like to show it off a bit! Please excuse the quality of photos -- all I had on me when we went to look at it was my Razr phone.
The building, built in 1926. Only now it's almost completely...
A follow-up to my 1930s thread!
I'll admit it -- my cutoff year is generally 1942. Mostly for aesthetic reasons :o My 1940s movie knowledge is seriously lacking.
But I still want to know what some of your favourites from 1940 to 1949 are. Sell us your favourite movie and perhaps we'll...
Me -- I have way too many to name! But I'm interested in hearing what some of your favourite films are from this wonderful decade -- which is also my very favourite!
I'm very fond of pre-Code movies the most, but I also love early musical talkies, anything by Busby Berkeley (no matter how...
Right now I'm watching The House On 56th Street (1933) with Kay Francis for a second time. Yesterday I watched Trog (1970).
What was the last movie you watched?
Carole Lombard.
Tell me what you think of her. What do you know about her?
After years of disliking her (long story!), I've finally come to my senses and now I'm a bit obsessed :o
Any thoughts, photos, or information would be greatly appreciated. :)
What's your favourite weird food combination? Those foods that really shouldn't go together, but your taste buds say that they must!
Mine: "Imitation Krab Meat" with tabasco sauce. I can't get enough of it!!
I used to like to eat rice cakes with nutella, anchovies, and squeeze icing, but...
Who are some of your very favourite female singers from the 20s-40s era? I've always preferred women singers to male in every genre I've ever been into and I'd like to find more music by more swingin' ladies.
Here's who I have:
Frances Langford
Annette Hanshaw
Lucille Bogan
Lee Wiley...
I always torture myself with this subject!
SAVED FROM THE TITANIC (1912)
Would've been a great historical document today. An actual Titanic survivor tells her story in a 10 minute flashback! The first ever movie about the disaster, released one month afterwards. It's supposedly been...
Who is still alive from the Golden Era of movies?
I've been wanting to compile this list since forever! With the recent losses of Yvonne DeCarlo, Betty Hutton, Marian Marsh, Bruce Bennett, and Kitty Carlisle Hart I figured now would be a good time.
Here's who I have so far...
Is anyone else in here interested in low-budget, "poverty row" movies and/or "educational" exploitation movies? What are some of your favourites from the 20s to the 50s? What's the most shocking thing you've seen in these movies?
From the October 1945 issue of PHOTOPLAY magazine, I present the ladies of The Powder Room with all the FANTASTIC glamour advertisements I found while flipping through this mag! Really, the ads were more exciting than the main movie content! Enjoy!
