That exaggerated caricature pic is a hilarious way to reference the idea! I literally just bought your old Model E from an FL member. I'm going to draw this on the liner.
"den of iniquity" "hoarding hooligans" - lololol
Regarding #3, I'd love to learn more about, and find, shorter wool full zips and maybe a peacoat. These rabbit holes never end lol.
Fast fashion really is so prevalent, even in leather it seems (Thursday comes to mind). And so little BIFL items made anymore in this world. Partly what attracted me to good leather and this forum.
The ideas and posts on this forum have helped me step out of my comfort zone and enjoy wearing...
There is something to be said about style versatility.
"Black, collared straight zipped jackets, wearable to work even with zipper sleeves"
For me, I've found the most functional riding jackets that I have are the ones I find least fashionable off the bike.
As the exploration continues I hope...
That makes a whole lot of sense! On the topic of hardware color...not long ago I gravitated toward silver hardware on a black jacket, now I much prefer brass.
"Quality should be observable, experiential and tangible" - very well said. I've grown to love 30 day return policies.
Someone on this...
It's been great so far, learning on this forum about what makes a quality jacket and a good fit. My eye has changed, and likely still will, I'm relatively new to this compared to many of you. Very valuable resource here, definitely grateful for it. Formerly, I would have only wanted a black...
It would be nice to hear from some of you, how your taste in leather jackets has changed over time. Have you broadened your horizons and come to love styles, brands and colors of jackets you formerly didn't? Or have you narrowed your focus to a specific style or brand?
That seems to make sense based on my limited exposure to this topic also. I think I've read that's about when Vanson stopped using horsehide. Can't remember where I read that, somewhere on this forum.
The Chopper is an attractive cross-zip design, but I'm more searching for brass hardware older Vanson Competition Weight jackets, the shirt collar style like Enfield, Oxford, Mercury etc.
Did it start out smooth with very little grain showing? That's just incredible looking. I'm trying to learn to calibrate my eye to tell which Vanson hides will end up looking like this. Just stunning!! If I ever stumbled across one of those in a 42, I'd be hard pressed not to buy it immediately.
That sure is a gorgeous Enfield, Peter. How old is that one? Trying to dial in my goals of what time range of Enfield to get, for that leather. Amazing!!
