There is a cool blog I happened upon called "Blythe's Blog" and it has a good section on Moscow Mules, the Cock and Bull and vodka in general--check it out: http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fleslieblythemiller.wordpress.com%2F&h=f609346f97d0ac8c577de1dcf0960be5
All games--Gin Rummey, Bridge, Cribbage, dominos--all good! Our favorite is a card game we learned in a pub in England called Shit Head--we shorten it to Sh'ed (don't want to scare the horses....). Backgammon is another favorite--there is sand from multiple holidays in our backgammon set...
Howard Rodman, in his book "Destiny Express" has a character mix his own--half bay rum and half witch hazel. Might be a lighter solution for the warmer months, although I think that Bay Rum is an all year around thing. D.R. Harris makes my favorite, although classics like St. John's and Royall...
My advice is always to serve some sort of food when serving alcohol--even if it is just chips and peanuts (olives and Twiglets are my favorite things to serve). Cocktails on a completely empty stomach can end badly for everyone.
Not discontinued. Now owned by Elizabeth Arden, you can buy it directly from them online:

They were dubious characters. Sartorially significant, but dubious. I have the Sotheby's catalogue from the sale of their effects and it makes for fascinating reading.....
Can I just say two words? Catherine Deneuve. Loved her in the wacky French Techincolor musical "Les Parapluies de Cherbourg" and have never stopped. Jamais.
I love the fact that you happened to be getting your hair cut at a place that could offer you a shave--all too rare these days! Badger & Blade is a great resource but like this site, can be habit-forming.....
I take it all back--I just checked the label and it is by Bernard Whetherhill of Conduit Street, a classic Savile Row tailor although not actually on the row. The Gieves & Hawkes I was thinking of is a tuxedo I found at Oxfam for a tenner--fantastic style, but such heavy fabric that I can...
Casual day for me--that means no suit. Instead, I am wearing a DB navy blazer, tan cavalry twill trousers, light blue checked shirt with spread collar, tobacco-brown suede captoe oxfords (Peal for BB), tie with a pattern of shotgun shells, vintage watch, Habit Rouge and..... my brown felt...
Wow--I agree. There is still Taylor's on 8th and The Pacific Dining Car, but with Edwards and Marcus gone, it is slim pickings for vintage steakhouses right in downtown. Plenty of new ones, of course. The deli is gone, but further down 6th towards Hancock Park, Cassel's Hamburgers is still...
That is a beauty and at a great price. I have one similar as well as a really early Elgin wrist watch (1918) that is almost like a small pocket watch with two lugs for straps.
Today I am wearing my 1948 Rolex bubble-back Oyster with a rose gold bezel. The best thing about it is that it...
