What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

I remember the supporting players being very good in the 74, just Redford ruined it for me. Bruce Dern really got inside Tom Buchanan. I studied it for A-level - surprisingly, that didn't ruin the book (or the other books and plays I studied) for me, but I know I'm lucky. I put it down to the...

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

Well, now, Our Lord, during his sojourn on Earth, *did* hang out with a much more diverse and interesting bunch of people than comprises a large chunk of his fanbase today.... ;)

What is this forums most popular brand and jacket?

Aero have always been popular. ELC used to be big news too, but I think they've priced most of us in these parts out now. A lot of lower-price band options that some years ago might have been sneered at are now popular as inevitably prices rise and not all our salaries do. (I know I'm earning...

What is going on with this site???

Hi all, it's been identified over the last 24 hours that a number of folks have found the site is running slow; the management is looking into this to see if there's a specific cause - we should hopefully know more soon.

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

He's an interesting director. I watched Spaced when it first came out (and, despite being so heavily pop-culture-reference oriented, it has aged better than many shows that try the same; the attempted emulation of the same style with a couple of the lead players but by a different director in...

    Indiana Jones V

I love this idea. I did look into a projector a few years ago when I needed a new TV. My idea was to have the projector on the ceiling and use it for TV and everything, on a white wall as you do. The concept was that then instead of the TV being an automatic focal point in the room, I could just...

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

Watched a few films on the streamers recently. Last night, though, I managed to (finally - is it just me, or since Covid are films suddenly taking vastly longer to reach the 'included with subscription' market?) see Edgar Wright's 2021 picture, Last Night in Soho...

Where can I buy high waist pants/trousers?

If you do, there are a bunch of folks on Etsy who sell vintage patterns adapted for modern multi-sizes. Eva Dress also do good patterns (I have some of these somewhere, though not used them yet as I'll have to employ someone else's skills.)...

How Do you Measure A Hat?

Aha! (I really need to remember to read the whole thread first....) I wonder where the 1/8 difference between US and UK sizing comes from?

How Do you Measure A Hat?

Indeed. Isn't the old sizing method (in which I am a UK7 /US7 1/8 vs, the metric system, in which I am a 57) based on some sort of calculation on those measurements?

any good makers of bullhide leather jackets?

Slim and long seems to be popular with some of the Japanese labels. The slimfit is obviously a reflection of the differing average build of their primary consumers. Length I don't know.... maybe just market demand? I suppose as many people in Japan might wear their trousers too low and want to...

any good makers of bullhide leather jackets?

3mm sounds a lot more manageable than nearly 9 - or even 5! I wouldn't necessarily turn it down for a bike jacket in the right pattern - good for a slide - but I can't imagine it draping "right" for a prewar style halfbelt.

any good makers of bullhide leather jackets?

I love the look of that grain, but am I reading the measure right - nearly 9mm/ 6/16" thick? Wowsers. Can't imagine that would be an easy wearer....

Leather Patriot Jacket by Nicks Boots

Yes, I think so. I like a 48-50" chest on a jacket I'm going to wear with a shirt under it; if I'm going to wear a thick sweater / layers under there, I can go as high as a 52, depending on cut. For me, ultimately, this one is indicative of some style just not being suited to leather. canvas...

Leather Patriot Jacket by Nicks Boots

Mn, that's about standard for a 44, or a 46 in a really slim-fit pattern, on average. XXL in China, L to XL here in the UK. Been a looooong time since I heard of anything in a "small" that I might fit!

    Aeroleather A2 badalassi

I've never found any qualitative difference between Aero and ELC. There was a time during the Lauder years when ELCs were considered to me more accurate to the contracts, but I know when Ken came back to sort things out in 2011/12, Aero's A2 patterns were significantly reworked. The biggest...

    I love the Fed IV!!

As far as I understand it, the dip in the back is commonly seen on bush hats, Westerns and the like because it supposedly keeps the sun off the back of the neck better than an upturned rear brim on a fedora. At least in origin - by this point, I suspect it's primarily a style thing. I've used...

Vintage things that have REAPPEARED in your lifetime?

I think most folks are handwriting less and less generally now, just the way things are moving on. When I was an undergrad I had sheafs and sheafs of handwritten notes. I finally threw virtually all of them - long outdated as they were - in the bin about five years ago when my parents were...

Design-wise these are way too modern for me, but the craftsman ship is beautiful, really enjoy seeing them and knowing they exist!

Good quality but affordable first leather jacket

There are threads somewhere where this came up. They were indeed having the jackets made out East, then selling them through their EU based business. Which was not really a surprise, given that the price they were retailing them at was significantly lower than what you would expect to be...
