I suspect a lot has to do with there still being people in parts of the US who wear Western styles "for real". It would be remarked on over here (outside elements of it within the rockabilly subculture), but there's nobody claiming authenticity / a 'right' to wear such things as against others...
Interesting question. I think most of the time it's a question of confidence more than anything. Though I know, even if I wanted to, I'd look ridiculous in a late 60s style skinny suit. Think Alexei Sayle's stage wear in the early eighties (which was deliberate and for comedic value).
I have...
Thanks! :-)
Interesting question.... I do find that I reach for a new hat by preference for a week or two, then it settles into a rotation. I'm somewhat anally retentive about working my hat into an outfit overall - particularly including colour coordination - and try not to accumulated too...
Moths are the killer. And a big reason why anything I have that is wool now goes into a garment bag as soon as I'm back in the house... Honestly, if ever anyone should create a genetically modified wool that doesn't attract moths (or, hell, a manmade fibre indistinguishable from wool in the...
Nice colour. I have a black pair from the contemporary line that also has this style of sole. They''re very comfortable and have lasted well (scuffing aside - the surface on mine is matte and won't take polish, but it's also less forgiving of a scuff than my Heritage line boots. I'll have to...
I've not picked up many more hats in 2024 as I've been determinedly sticking to buying only what I will wear rather than collecting. I used to frame that as only what I "need", but..... ha!
2024 saw me acquire two more Daisy Maes (not a style I thought I'd gravitate to when I idly picked up my...
These look great. I would think the softer leather will last much longer too. My first pair of DMs eventually split along the top where they crease. I tend to find softer and, for whatever reason, grained leathers like this tend to be more durable. (Though to be fair to those first DMs of mine -...
Interesting look, thanks for posting. :)
I've never seen another like it. I wonder how many were made? Looks like something that might have been done as a seasonal variation in fashion - if it was only done one year as a novelty, it could end up being much rarer than some of the classic...
Seems to me a lot comes down to how we define workwear too. I suspect it varies a lot, depending on whether you're dealing with a situation where there's a uniform (actual or defacto, based on company requirements and such). But yes... The way purpose-made stuff has evolved for manual labour...
Neat, neat, neat.
I don't think I've seen one of these in the wild before - it's nice. I've long been tempted to try one of the Magnoli versions of this jacket - maybe on day..
At that price, definitely worth a punt - you'll be easily able to get your money back on these rare birdies as long as it's in wearable condition. Hopefully though you'll get a wearable fit!
I remember seeing a Filson tincloth packet hat with a thermal liner and earflaps that could be flipped down or tucked up inside.
In terms of something to add in to a pre-existing hat, I suppose you could try something like this - a thermal helmet liner designed for cyclists and motorcyclists...
I have a natural hoarding instinct that needs to bed carefully managed. One of the reasons I like jackets is they have a practical purpose and don't just take up space in my tiny flat (given I live in central London on an academic salary, I'm never going to bed able to afford anything much...
Can't provide measurements as mine is in storage, but I do have one of the Replica Series B15s from the same period, which I think is the same in shell size. Marked as an XL. When I was wearing it daily, I was a 44" chest in most things, and it fit just a little looser than my 44/XL B15 C MOD...
It'll happen in time. It's nothing new, of course. I've seen plenty of photos from early eighties fashion scenes and subcultures where donkey jackets had long been a thing. By the early 80s when some of those were routinely being produced for issued uniform by local authorities with fluorescent...
My wife worked NYE in pubs and social clubs years ago. I gather it was often difficult as many did set themselves up with such big expectations the night never lived up to. Add in melancholic reflections on the disappointments of the year gone and often alcohol in excess.... messy.
I've never...
It'd be interesting to know. I've seen an evolution in costume knowledge on Rocky Horror, and there qere definitely marked changes in broad knowledge with vhs, the web, and ultimately dvd for the details. I remember things did go around by word of mouth pre web. Brand names moreso than specific...
The Premier line all run a markedly neater fit than the regular lines. Typically equivalent to one size down (or two if it's a regular HWM you're comparing). Legend has it that the origin of these was a "tight fit" created for the Japanese market.
The Premier Highwayman is interesting in...
