Hi,
"natural vintage" simply is Aero's oil-pull horsehide. It's a nice type of leather but you got to be aware of the fact that its surface will pick up scuffs and traces of raindrops very easily. Original A2s were never made in that type of leather, and they all had a spray finish. Also bear...
That's strange[huh]. Considering the fact that you are shorter than 6 ft. I would have bet that the jacket would fit you perfectly. I would call Eastman first thing in the morning.
I think Aero changed their courier service and ship their items now with UPS exclusively. Therefore custom duties may be unavoidable. UPS are very anal with these things...
I never knew that Aero's heavy steer had such a great amount of grain. The samples I received a couple of years back were almost undistinguishable from heavy FQHH. Same smooth surface and waxy feel but a tad thicker. The sample looks good and appears to have a good weight behind it. Good luck...
:D No, Peacoat, I understood H. Johnson very well. I only said that he knows much more about breaking in a jacket for 50 years than I do...;)
Ehm, Navin, don't forget to post some pictures of the result in 50 years time. I'm sure it will be one hell of a jacket then...
(And I will be a very...
I don't think it could be "un-dyed" without destroying the leather or at least the surface of the leather. Getting the dye off would incorporate a significant amount of solvents which would also ruin the stitching if it's a poly-cotton blend. Wear it or give it away, but don't try something...
Clarks desert boots? Or are they too summer-ish?
Here's a good range... http://www.oipolloi.com/subcat/Shoes/3.html
Edit: Sorry, most of them are suede or nubuck.
Pre-warming is a good idea. For easy, clean and lint-free application I can recommend a small quality sponge. (Get one of those flat ones for dishwashing). In order to avoid any contact with the shearling fleece make sure the jacket's closed and lying flat (on an old towel) with the collar...
I had a G&B G1 a couple of years ago. It was a well made jacket, much better than a Cooper, recent Avirex or Cockpit in terms of workmanship. The fit was more relaxed compared to an Aero of the same size. I ended up selling it because the fit was too loose for my taste and the scratchy poly-wool...
Hi JB,
I fully agree with Olli. Don't compare suit sizes and don't try to deduct your correct size for an Aero from that. Get somebody to measure you properly (tailor, girlfriend) and then talk to Amanda.
My Aero is a size 40 with 1 1/2 inches added to both body and sleeves.
I am 6 ft. tall...
Hi,
the main difference between the 1950s and 1930s Halfbelt is the fit. The 1950s HB is more relaxed in fit whereas the 1930s is a trim and close fitting jacket with narrow sleeves, high armholes and a slightly waisted body.
The 1930s HB also features button cuffs vs american style cuffs...
Olli, that's not a bad fit at all!! Nice M422a! The sleeves and body could benefit from an additional inch of leather but apart from that it looks excellent. Can't wait to see some new stuff at the "Omma&Oppa Inn".
Sorry, I don't know if there is any difference between an Aero and the Eastman equivalent. But I assume that there won't be much difference in fit as they are both based on historical models. I once owned a Real McCoys NZ and that was comparable in terms of overall proportions
Don't get me wrong Sascha. My Aero is totally "inauthentic" in terms of being true to any specific military contract. But it's a superbly made period correct civilian jacket of the 1940s.
