Interesting to see the difference in what companies consider Silverbelly. My Stetson Open Road 6x is a true silverbelly color, while my Akubra Campdraft is more of a tan color, not quite fawn. I know each hat is different, even within the same company. I'm happy for the differences, it would be...
I had a similar experience with Stetson. I bought two straw Open Roads, both missing the JBS hat pin, from different vendors. Stetson sent me two for free, overnight shipping. I tell you this because it surprised me. Doesn’t surprise me from David Morgan.
Recent attic find locally, this hat has never had a permanent crease in it. It looks like it’s sat in a box for the last 60 years. Very similar to an Open Road. A few moth marks on it. Otherwise great shape. I added a Stetson hat pin that’s not pictured. $200 + shipping.
Tried my hand at growling and curing my own tobacco, in Idaho. Virginia tobacco cured with Tullamore Dew for flavor. After a year from harvest it’s finally smokable, pleasantly smooth.
I bought this Fernandez y Roche Clergy fur felt hat for a song on Ebay. It's got a 4" brim. The felt is good quality and thin, almost like an Open Road. I decided to make it a cowboy hat.
Here's another comparison, my new BGG Campdraft with my 1960s Stetson 3x. The 3x is not technically an Open Road but meets the same dimensions as older ORs. Also, these two hats have the same measurements. Not surprisingly. Neither of these hats has had a crease yet.
I finally got my Bluegrass Green Campdraft today after 5 months. It's much darker than I figured it would be, but every hat is different. It's a beauty. I went with a cattleman crease.
Great movie, amazing book. Here's a picture of the real Reverend John MaClean, with his trilby. (Not my picture obviously). I gotta say with respect, I prefer the movie fedora.
