Can't help but notice on my frequent travels to Amsterdam the number of A-2's, G-1's and various other leather flight jackets being worn by the locals. Far more than I see here in Texas, or anywhere else in the USA. Is this a Dutch thing? Maybe a European thing for wearing American type WWII...
Foe the price conscious, there are several options for those of us who will only settle for "Made in USA" clothing (my wife, for one). Historic Aviation Magazine (www.historicaviation.com) offers a good looking A-2, brown or black, sizes 36 to 46, and made by the supplier to the US Air Force. At...
This is a fine jacket! Very close to G&B in quality. Good fit for me at 5' 11", 175 lbs, 40R. Nothing else to say...the photos speak for themselves. Only item of note are the 3 piece sleeves.
For you HH fans (and you know who you are), this A-2 is currently at $137, auction ends Friday. Looks like a great jacket!

Is it kosher to put cloth patches on leather jackets? Yes? No? If not, why not? I have placed (not sewn on) some cloth patches on my leather A-2 just for experimentation, and it it looks OK to me. Actually, looks pretty good.
A good friend had G&B make him a B-3 in a size 44R. The coat is beautiful! Very, very warm. And, it fit me perfectly. My normal coat size is a 40, or 42R. This B-3 seemed small. Perhaps it is all that fur that takes up so much space.
Anyway, a gorgeous coat. Another satisfied customer of G&B...
Looking for someone who can make a custom painted leather patch for an A-2 jacket. I already know what we want, just need a person who can translate our ideas into reality.
Please advise if anyone on this forum does this, or if you can recommend someone outside of this forum.
Thanks!
First, let us define our terms.
Budget: Equal to or less than $300.
I have been searching, and there are surprisingly a number of leather jackets, including A-2's and G-1's available in this range. And if you shop hard enough, you can find them for under $200.
In one or two cases these...
Just curious if anyone here has ever worn an Alpha A-2, or known someone that has owned one.
I am looking for an inexpensive A-2 to experiment with, but want one that is decent. After seeing the leather Alpha jackets in Germany, as well as the satin jackets, I am convinced that they are of...
As we are planning to have a custom made jacket for my Father's 90th birthday, can anyone advise as to the proper location for the various patches that we will have sewn on?
The ones I am wondering about are the:
WWII US Army Western Pacific patch
WWII Bronze Star Patch
WWII Purple Heart...
We are going to purchase a nice flight jacket for my father on his 90th birthday. He is a highly decorated WWII veteran. It would be nice to sew his patches (replica, as his originals are framed) on the jacket.
Not sure if the jacket will be satin, or nylon material, or even leather. How...
Does anyone know if the G-1 jackets were ever standard issue in black leather? I think there have been a few photos of at least one military officer wearing a black leather G-1.
Calling all Alpha fans! Just got the MA-1, USA made jacket. What a shock!!! It was ordered in a size (L) as the jackets I tried on in Frankfurt, Germany were perfect in fit in size L. This jacket is actually a medium in size, based on other jackets.
And that is the good news! This jacket has...
Noticed there are a number of non-leather jackets (flight satin) that are sporting numerous wrinkles. Is there an easy and safe way to get these wrinkles out? Perhaps these are caused by packaging and transportation. Will they "fall out" after being left on a clothes hanger?
Who makes the best satin B-15? Cockpit also makes a leather version. I will guess Alpha as they were an original supplier to the US military.
Following are pics to help some of you out.
Found a store near my hotel here in Frankfurt called NATO Supplies. It has nearly every jacket made by Alpha, except the B-15. Tried on the MA-1's, the CWU 45/P's, the B-3's, N-3B's, both in satin and leather.
These jackets did not state country of origin, but they did NOT say made in...
Found a very nice looking USAF B-10 replica on the Bay for $189 including shipping. Looks like a very warm jacket with the Alpaca/wool lining and fur collar.
They (Quartermaster Inspector) claim to supply clothing to the movie industry. Are these jackets any good? I do know they are...
