    WTB: small vintage gabardine jacket

These are a bit valuable, but I thought I'd check here just in case. If anyone has a vintage gabardine/ricky short jacket in a small size that they'd like to let go, let me know! Been looking for one for as long as I can remember being into vintage. Can anyone here bring closure to this hunt?

    Horror stories with vintage clothing

Hey guys, As the vintage the Lounge typically prizes is very old and may be quite delicate, I was wondering if anyone has had any embarrassing or awful experiences with wearing or collecting vintage. I haven't suffered too much, other than when I was doing a photoshoot with an actor, and my...

    FS: 15+ Individual 1930's-50's Neckties!

Thought I'd narrow down my tie collection. All these ties are from the 30's-50's. This is a splendid variety, but I find myself almost never wearing them. Thought I'd give 'em good homes! Let me know which tie you're interested in and shoot me a PM! A: Marked: "Frank M. Hutton--Auburn, ILL."...

    WTB: 1920s-1940's Silk Brocade Ties

Can anyone tell me what kind of buttons I need?

Hey guys, I recently purchased a vintage chore coat that needs new buttons. As far as I can see, the coat did not use the traditional buttons that can simply be sewn on. They're sort of like cufflink buttons? Here's a pic of a button closure on the coat. Hope somebody knows!

    WTB: Vintage (pre-1950) fedora sizes 6 7/8 - 7

Hello Loungers, I'm looking for a clean vintage felt fedora, particularly one with a brim over 2", sizes mentioned in thread title. If anyone is willing to let go of their wee-head lids, shoot some offers!

Can a vintage car still be driven as a daily driver?

I apologize if this has already been covered here. For years, I have shown interest in vintage cars and have been open to owning one, even if it can only be used as a weekend driver these days. Whether or not vintage cars (I consider this to be pre-1970's) can be reliable and safe is a rather...

    Shoulder Width Question

Hello, This may seem like a silly question, but i have been eyeing a late 40's suit that has a shoulder width of 18". This coat is 17.5": Would that extra 0.5" make me look ridiculous? Just to preface: the suit I am watching is much less roomy in the chest and waist than this sack I'm...

World War 2 Era Wool Unreliable?

I have heard, because of clothing restrictions during WW2, wool garments civilians had access to weren't great. The victory suit was likely to be worn to threads sooner than suits before or after the war. All my post-WW2 wool garments have endured their regular wear. The only vintage piece that...

My First Experience at a Tailor--Not good!

Hello all, I thought I'd share something of note that I'd think could start some discussion. Today, I took a pair of 1950s pleated gab slacks (a $10 investment, thought it would be a good test run for my first trip to the seamstress) to my nearest tailor. Since I'm underage and broke, my mother...

    Pet Peeves with Vintage?

Though I would choose vintage styles and pieces over contemporary, there are some limitations or gripes I have with vintage, and thought that perhaps other Loungers thought the same. Here's your place to vent. Can be about true vintage and/or repro items. Here are some of mine: - Garments were...

Products That Have Gotten Better Over Time

"They don't make 'em like they used to" is something you'll hear often, and most of the time it holds true to whatever it's being applied to. One big reason we like the Golden Era so much is because items were typically made to last, and no one expected to replace things 6 months after they were...

    Help Dating Dad's Florsheims

I found these loafers that belonged to my father. He has no recollection of when they came, and they look hardly worn. I honestly find these shoes incredibly boring and low-quality (and it seems like he feels the same way ). Insole is lackluster and the leather feels cheap. Perhaps...

What do people generally feel about the post-war 40's Bold Look?

The late 40's are often associated with the wide football player shoulder suits, some say they were ill-fitting, baggy and zoot-ish. However, I know there is a strong following for the tailoring and garments of this period. I was wondering how you loungers felt about this trend. I have discussed...

Did People Wear Vintage in the Golden Era?

Does anyone know for sure if there were recurrences of yesteryear's fashion even back in the day? I just can't imagine that people just stuck to what was vogue, even at the time, I imagine there must have been a classic trend like what's happening today. Pictures would be great.

How to get stain out of woolen trousers?

I recently discovered a frosting (??) stain on my 1940s pinstripe pants. I really don't feel like getting them dry cleaned at the moment. Does anyone know a home remedy for this? Thanks.

Current State of Black Tie Attire?

Hopefully this is the appropriate section, a moderator may move this to Suits, if not. I was hoping to canvass the Lounge's opinions, observations, gripes, etc with the way black tie is worn today. Now, as some may know, I'm likely the youngest member to grace the Lounge (someone may correct...
