Mods, apols if this should be in the film section. I'm trying to find information on a band in a film.
I don't normally go in for films like 'The Mechanic', however there is an excellent jazz band roughly 10 min in to the feature.
Can anyone tell me more about them?
Thanks,
Talbot
Melbourne's Astor theatre is an art deco gem struggling to survive, but so far managing.

I watched the latest release of Le Carre's 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy' last night.
George Formby's 1940 song 'Mr Wu's a window cleaner now' features (briefly) in a prominent part of the film.

I enjoyed the film, and was pleased to hear George Formby...
My local Florsheim dealer has some discontinued Royal Imperials on deep discount at the moment.
I'm tempted, but the toes are square(ish) - not my favourite style.
I can't recall seeing many square toe styles in old shoe catalogs (perhaps I need to read more) or in the 'show us your shoes'...
I'm sure other loungers are more scholarly than I on these matters, but here goes
I'm currently reading 'The Big Money' written in 1936 by John Dos Passos (good read BTW).
In he writes about the Wright Brothers:

I recently acquired a very nice pair of AE Broadstreet's from Cookie (pics to come), and need some more shoe trees.
I also picked up some Loake and some near new 'K' at the goodwill recently and want to protect my $6 investment!
I have some vintage metal trees, and even some dodgy plastic...
I recently picked up an Elgin A-11 wristwatch.
At least that is what the case back says. Its non hacking and I assumed all A-11 were hacking.
It might be OK, be faulty, or be a frankenwatch:(.
Can anyone clarify wether non hacking is correct?
It's keeping good time and I'm happy...
A great series with more info than the film.

My new (old) Stetson Medallist arrived today.
The box was clearly marked fragile, and it looks like the postal service(s) really rose to the challenge. They won.
The fibres (straw?) are not damaged, but the hat looks like its been sat on - for a long time.
How do I get shape back into...
For those sending parcels into the US from overseas.
In response to heightened security concerns, all parcels greater than 453 grams (16 ounces) bound for the United States (and associated territories and open transit countries) will be subject to tighter aviation security measures introduced...
Air racing was pivotal to the development of aeronautical technology in the years between the wars.
I have always seen this as the pinnacle of know how and daring. Some of these people designed and built thier own planes and then had to scrounge gas money to race. After WWII it was never the...
At work I was at the recieving end of a presentation from some high powered hyena's, er management consultants, the other day.
Bespoke pinstripes, siver hair, french cuffs, hard eyes and gold watches. All sharp - the full rag.
When it came time for them to take notes, out came the...
Soul music has always been a bit 'late mid century' for my tastes (hence the O/T moniker).
I heard some tracks by Irma Thomas and Solomon Bourke recently that made me pause and rethink. My tastes are wide and varied (mid century and earlier only), it occurred to me I might be missing...
I just took a pic of a watch I had serviced and it doesn't look anywhere near as good as it does in real life.
In fact it looks like it was stolen from the wrist of a drunk dead in the gutter:o . It looks a lot better than that.
How do I get my camera (its only a happy snap 8MP Lumix...
