    I like to think of my steerhide 1950s Windward as a black version of the brown De Niro jacket. Although mine is belted and has the piping across the top of the chest. Close, anyway. I don’t think I’ve seen a clear shot of the back of De Niro’s jacket. Is it missing a belt, by chance?

    Thanks for your nice comments. Based on the zipper, I think it's 1950s. The style is one that I believe carried over from the 1940s, so maybe the jacket itself is early 1950s?

    I love that story about the girl in the gas station booth noticing your jacket and telling you so over the loudspeaker. That kind of recognition from the fair sex is priceless.

    For those in the NYC area, Schott is having its Factory Sale on Dec. 7 from 8 a.m.-noon. 735 Rahway Ave, Union, NJ 07083 They say they have a $50-less room, which might present some nice bargains. They also state "cash only."
