Not just the country of manufacture, but the material label needs to be addressed. I was a little put off by the "genuine leather" label, and even though Morten assured me, in no uncertain terms, that it was in fact goat, and I can see the grain plainly, that's not going to help much if I ever...
I was watching "The Right Stuff" the other night, after just re-reading the book, and was wondering if anyone could tell me which A-2 it is that Sam Shepherd (playing Chuck Yeager) is wearing. That's one of the best-looking A-2's I've ever seen.
I've been in love with suede ever since "Rubber Soul." I think the Rockefeller does come in suede, and I'd love to see either of those jackets in a rust with black leather trim, like a jacket I wore for years when I was in high school. It's great to see this level of creativity.
I think the real craftsmen, whether you're ordering leather jackets, suits, hats, or whatever online, seem to have an uncanny knack of listening to the customer and deducing their needs. I've had that fortunate experience a couple of times: once with Aero and another time with Art Fawcett, the...
Am I the only one who finds that term irritating? I see it quite a bit on ebay and always ask myself why anyone would find it appealing in a leather jacket. One of the main appeals for me is the protective, armor-like feel of the jacket. On ebay or in ads for dept. stores, designer labels, etc...
I've always vaguely thought the HWM needed a few tweaks: you actually sat down and figured out what they were, and then made it a reality. Cheers to you.
They were horrible, but I find the modern, tight fit is very similar. We used to call them "body-shirts". In those days I either wore army/navy work-shirts or the Fifties spread-collars, which were everywhere in the used-clothing shops then. Ah, when I think of the things we used to find!
The Akubra Campdraft in Bluegrass Green also looks great with a brown leather jacket. They're the best hats for the money that I know of. Miles past Stetson.
What I was thinking. This is what everybody wants when they order a custom jacket, and imagine how hard it is to hit that exact size for the folks making it. Amazing, really.
Men wore both styles at the time. My dad's shirt that I mentioned in the other thread (I'll try this weekend to get some pics up) has a smaller collar. I've been buying up quite a few in the last few years on Etsy and Ebay, as I really can't wear the "stand-up" collars and tight shirts that are...
I feel bad, as I'm the one who informed you about the sale. I'm hoping the jacket will look a lot better once it gets broken in: I know Boyo (here on the Lounge) got one and was pleased with it. I hope it works out for you.
I have the shirt my dad bought the day he was discharged from the Marines in 1946. It's a really nice sport shirt, tan and gold checked with a camp collar and loop. It's a tiny bit small on me, but one of these days I'm going to have it copied.
What a great piece to wake up to! I was watching Jeff Beck playing "Apache" the other night and spent hours trying to hammer it out on my Melody Maker. And now this!
PM me with your Paypal address and I'll send you the funds. I was thinking the patch would look really cool with my new Russet...
Things had turned around quite a bit by that time. I have a photo of my Uncle Bill, who was an immigrant and the son of a Glasgow ship's carpenter, standing in front of a brand-new Buick he had just bought in 1940, just before the war and his enlistment in the Marines and subsequent deployment...
