    Pre 1940s Stetson Westerns

I recall having read a thread somewhere wherein the history of the western hat in fact ... started with "regular city hats" i.e. people wore ... whatever they had! (at the very least until that moment in time when John B. Stetson is supposed to have "invented" the cowboy hat, and the production...

    Cool Hats Refrigerated!!!!

Oh (Dreispitz) I see....nah, you don't fool me: you want to transform your hat into one of those bavarian ones, the transformation already begun at the bottom....LOOK  OH NO!

Mr. Alan, I think the hat you show is, indeed, very close if not fully a "fedora" (please, "others" chip in here!). And, as to feeling comfortable with a hat ...argh... it's pretty much the "story of my life", mind you. I fully agree with you, "we ain't cowboys" (etc. etc.) and, yes, I...

    Cool Hats Refrigerated!!!!

Er...Dreispitz... ¿why exactly? (It isn't hot in Germany right now, no?) lol

    Pre 1940s Stetson Westerns

Well, Mr. Alan, about all of the hats on the first page are full-fledged cowboy hats and some of them have something close to a 7-inch crown height (unbashed, of course). These hats are, in all of their dimensions, way too large to be considered "city-town-contemporary" (how do you call that?)...

Now I'm really cheating on my wife!

Nope. I bought it. P.S. I'll probably do as I did before: hide it. On my head. And hope she doesn't notice the difference with the other ones. P.S. 2 Mmmm. Fat chance :o Even she knows the difference between a smoking bear and Dick Tracy. Thanks anyway, jw.

Now I'm really cheating on my wife!

Thanks rmrdaddy, as to wearing such hat, quite frankly, it's becoming purely a matter of personal choice: as I slip out of the professional horizon, my level of personal freedom grows exponentially. And, of course, I don't work 24/24. So...hatwise I'm a happy person. I'll take a few pictures...

    Gaucho hats

Very interesting, Kreissaege. I'm not in the market for any hats, of courserous [huh] but interesting, nevertheless. Also the other stuff is unusual these parts, naturally. Like the "aspargata" jute shoes: that's what I wear at home in the evening. Made in China something like 2 Euros...

Now I'm really cheating on my wife!

...who said she's strangle me if I bought another hat. I did, and saved the situation by stowing it away as future "Christmas gift". But... I bought a second "strangle you" hat! A Stetson Nutria quality (park ranger?) hat. There is no ribbon. Now, I have a nice horsehair band, tied up...

Feltfan: Belgian abbey ale? Well, lucky you! :offtopic: I don't drink much beer at all, because of diabetes and the need to keep the weight down, but these beers are marvellous. Why, if you were anywhere around here, or if ever you are near, I have some Belgian beers that will surprise you...

    Discouraged in Dallas

Hi...MadDawg (where have I heard the term "dawg" before now? lol ) and ...welcome to the MadHouse of Hats: there ain't no better place I know of. Indeed, you gone lost in Woolfeltlandia. If you wanta fly with the eagles (the birds, not the musicians, heavens forbid!), stick around. One tip...

    Panama Hat Thread

About a week ago, my wife said to me "if you buy another hat, I'll strangle you". So, this is either my suicide note, or -better- a sneak preview of the Christmas present my wife will give me ;) Panama hat Very even weave; mostly "brisa", but with some "llano" circular sections...

    Gosh. I love hats.

¿Georgia? Nope. Ne'er been there, closest I got was South Carolina, entangled in spanish moss... ¿Dawgs? That is, exactly, how I like to pronounce the word, though. Peace (should be no problem between us...) Paul

How Akubra's are made + more.

...well...Steve...believe me, the bottom line counts, like it or not! That's also why we wear our hats ... on our head! :eusa_doh:

How Akubra's are made + more.

Vielen dank, Oddsteve! Now this is the very best, most instructive (factory) hatmaking documentary I've ever seen! And, not a small detail, it is claimed that a sizeable proportion of the fur -other than the Australian rabbit fur- consists of hare fur from France! The documentary shows...
