    Diversity

No Craig, dull as it may seem, just shades of brown for me; the simpler (unadorned) the better. I've just conditioned my FW Brakeman with a coat of Pecard's and it's turning a really attractive shade of chestnut. Minimalist in terms of detailing (no pocket flaps, clean large panels), the throat...

    Freewheelers Caboose Jacket

I read the comments on Denimbro (tbf these come from a group that sees/wears a lot of Freewheelers clothing - I bought my Journeyman through that forum - so they are informed comments from members who familiar with the FW cut/quality/materials). The general comments about fit mirrored your own...

    Freewheelers Caboose Jacket

Having seen this image on a larger screen, I can see that it's very different from the panels on both the Journeyman and the Brakeman. Very neat detail.

    Freewheelers Caboose Jacket

Is it like this (common feature for Freewheelers)?

    Freewheelers Caboose Jacket

That looks really fine. I absolutely love my Journeyman and Brakeman jackets - the workmanship is superb and the materials are top notch. The Brakeman shares a collar profile with your Caboose, and it looks really elegant. The Colt buttons are really a nice touch. The sleeves are a touch long in...

    Freewheelers Purple Little Wing

I love a lot of the Freewheelers catalogue and have owned/worn several, but this one isn’t for me (too busy).

    Contrast stitching thoughts

Very subjective topic, but I agree. I have OD thread on Tatanka Brown HH, which I really like, dark tan on Auburn Brown HH; I’m about to receive tobacco Brown thread on mid brown goatskin. Personally, I prefer subtle, complementary thread colours rather than stark contrast.

My first "real" leather jacket - where to put my money?

For the style that you describe, I’d go for a Freewheelers Four Corners (http://freewheelers.co.jp/blog/archives/16183). Depending on your size, you can pick up smaller (38/40) sizes on Japanese auction sites for a reduction in price over the retail outlets. From your list though, I’d opt for Thedi.

    New Eastman Star Sportswear A-2

Is the officer in the Memphis Belle image wearing a Doniger? Looks very sharp.

    Collar Stand

Sold my A-2 jackets, and took up wearing A-1s... The lower collar of the Doniger was easier on the beard...

    Collar Stand

Not just you: I used to catch my beard in the throat latch occasionally, which was a painful reminder!

    Collar Stand

I’ve owned examples of Perry A-2 (collar stand) and Doniger (without). The collar sits more prominently with the band, but for comfort I preferred the more open collar with the simple neckline of the Doniger.
