Commonly available jeans - higher waist?

Some of the plain ol' non-fashion workwear companies have some surprisingly traditional cuts still available: This looks pretty good and very cheap...

Ask a question, get an answer

Excellent! Thank you. The first one looks closer to what I'm looking for. I thought it might be a tyrolean hat, but I suspected that those didn't come with wider brims like this one.

Ask a question, get an answer

Hello gentlemen, nice to find a thread that caters to my total ignorance of hats. I am mostly a cap wearer, and I don't really see myself wearing a fedora well. But I saw this in a 1940s film and thought 'i can pull that off' Is it a trilby? Suede? Specifics would be most welcome. Cheers

Camelhair sportcoat size 40L, patch pockets, ventless, 1930s repro

One of the most incredible sport coats I have come across, this is made of heavy camel hair cloth, which has a wonderful soft and pleasing handle, as well as being extremely warm. Downright luxurious. Unfortunately it is a tad too tight for me, and I am streamlining the ol' wardrobe...

HBK, it is as you say. I wonder why a reinforcement in just that area? Fastuni, thanks. I suspected as much, but the info on the US army frequented hotel confirms it. While the chest is drapey, the waist is fitted. I thought of the Third Man as well. I quite like the multi-national...

    Show Us Vintage GERMAN Suits

I found a thing: The label reads 'wien kaerntner ring 6': A street in central Vienna. The chest pocket is massive. It also features a wide chest with a sharply tapered waist and half lined. I believe this is called a drape cut. The old, brown Harris Tweed label, without the...

Some good stuff on ebay at the moment. I have saved the best for myself ;) but here are some nice Harris Tweed jackets for your perusal, all 1940s-1950s: 1950s size 38, 3 buttons, ticket pocket, huge lapels, inaccurate dating...

    1940s/1950s cars vs. 1960s cars

I see what you are describing, and the earlier cars are more to my taste, with a more sculptured silhouette, but I can see why that shift happened. The more angular and lower profile cars must have looked modern and edgy when they were first introduced. This is assuming that aesthetics are not...

    What are you wearing today??

I have seen surplus peacoats advertised in 1940s catalogues, worn with a fedora much like this fellow. I will try to find the image. Edit: Here it is

The Deities of Men’s Style (NY Times Article)

He makes a good point about how the depiction of the old film stars was very controlled, where today you are likely to see many unflattering images of celebrities.

    Reproduction classic workwear

Lucky find on ebay, Farah repro of a 1950s workwear model. Corduroy lined chino cloth. Very versatile insulation which is warm, but isn't stifling in warmer weather. It comes with this label-apparently many of these were made with surplus military chino cloth. Dinerman-have you come...
