Since you are on the subject of felts....I acquired a 60's Dobbs that is sun faded on one side. I looks like it sat in direct sunlight for years...one side is faded the other is not. The hatband even has a shadow of from the trolly cord. How you you fix the fading?
There was one straw Panamaish hat in the batch that I was gifted this week. It's a Stetson with an Optimo type crease. Anyone seen one like this? I have no idea how old it is.
Are there any hatters you can recommend on the east coast of the US? I inherited fifteen vintage fedoras. They are all too small. They are 7 and I’m 7 1/8 but they are nice quality hats. I’m thinking there are two or three I would like to get resized. Who would you trust to disassemble, block...
I was gifted about 20 vintage hats today. Stetson, Dobbs, Mallory, Knox, Disney, a Borsolino etc. most of them are too small (I wear 7 1/8) so I’ll soon offer some for sale or trade. I need to sort through them and decide what to keep.
One of my favorites that fits is this Stetson. Does...
What do y'all do when you buy a vintage hat with a nice hat box and when it shows up it smells like cigarette smoke? Can you get that smell out without adding an artificial perfume smell? I'm actually more interested in removing the smell from the nice hat box...right now they are airing out in...
I have a Guild Edge Dobbs coming. It looks like it’s a bit of a mess. Maybe sun damage? Worth a try for the $10 entry fee. And it comes with a Dobbs box. The box alone is worth $10.
Looks like it may need a replacement band. Not sure where to get that…
I’ve always warmed up quickly...which can cause problems because my wife is a freeze baby. We always disagree about the AC/heat settings. That said...my felts are too hot for me above about 68 degrees. I just got a couple new straw hats for the season and I bet they will see duty in the next few...
Gots to stock up the straws. It’s going to get warm quick but it’s still too early in the year to wear a white hat (like the one in my closet). So I ordered this Lennox from Stetson. Should look good with a pair of blue jeans. It’s on the truck.
Another Gun Club. This one is like the one @BobHufford has but is grey with a black band. The ad posted earlier in the thread says this hat is a new silky mixture. I have to admit it feels unlike any other hat I own. This is a nice clean example. Doesn’t look like it’s ever been worn much at all.
Glad to hear you like it. The ad had it listed as wool but I'm thinking they were mistaken...what say you?
Now that I think about it I saw your post with pics of that hat and the old Stetson ads. I thought that was the same model in brown. 1958-59 ?
Question about Stetson. I’m sure this has been explained before but I couldn’t find any info so here it goes.
I’ve seen “Gun Club by Stetson” and “Toranado by Stetson”. These don’t seem to be models. Are they separate lines like a sub brand? If so, what is the distinction? I won an auction for...
A problem with the custom hat approach comes into play when we don't understand the impact of the different specifications. For example, what do you mean by a deeper flange on the Stratoliner?
A lot of these bowlers are OLD. The Stetson I recently picked up is at least 90 and maybe 100 years old...but still in very nice condition. Like it hadn't been used much at all over the years.
Would you wear a hat that old or just add it to the collection on the shelf?
