New member, starting up a crazy JL 6oz leather jacket order

Haha, I get it. The shrunken horsebutt is just beautiful. Shrunken bison, on the other hand, is a lot more rugged. It looks indestructible What color is it though? One thing I notice is that 95% of leather jacket are some shades of black and brown. I would love to see a more variety of colors

Thanks for the tips. I’m still toying with the idea and juggling between the jacket design and the quills on the ostrich hides. It will be a while before I’m taking on the actual project

You already had that shrunken horse grizzly jacket or is it in the work now? Damon showed me a picture of an shrunken horse jacket, but it was only the sleeve

The trucker is a great choice for such small hide as shark or kangaroo leather. I have been thinking about an ostrich leather jacket that combines the full hide and leg panels. Can’t wait to see your next project though. I really love the styles and color choices of your leather jackets. You...

Did you make a specific thread for this jacket? I couldn’t find it to find more details on it. I have a shark skin wallet, so I love its grain. And knowing that it’s quite stiff, but to hear you and @Monitor describe as tin is very interesting. Do you struggle to bend the arm? What about...

How does the shark skin wear like? I saw the jacket on their IG but didn’t know that YOU have it. It looks darn good on you and that arm raise is as good as any good patterned leather jacket.

I don’t necessarily chase after the heavyweight but I love the pronounced grain of the shrunken bison leather, which just happens to be very thick, 6-8oz. If it’s only just for the pronounced grain, my option can be to skive the entire panel down to 3.5-4.5oz, and make it somewhat wearable. I...

JL has the skill and experience of doing these beastly jackets. I’m curious to hear a review from the owner of this jacket though. He mentioned about the love for heavy weight leather and yet not a review on the jacket itself.

I’m looking forward to your updates. I’ve been eyeing on the shrunken bison leather, and it’s a thick hide, so I have only been doing research. One thing to keep in mind about thick leather is that it’s not very pliable, so even when the edges are skived down, the panel itself is still tough to...

Did you read through a thread of someone wanted a 5-6oz jacket with JL which didn’t happen? It hope your project isn’t a cliffhanger like that thread. Looking forward to the project?

    Johnson Leather Jacket

Thanks. And your jacket is also very awesome. I really like the design. And I love the fact that your choice of repair made it as closed to the original than it was before. And it’s a very insightful review on the repair. It shows both sides of the coin on the repair job from JL, showcasing...

    Johnson Leather Jacket

Thanks. And I can’t thanks you enough for all of your help and idea and insight up to this point. At the time of ordering, it would have been my first real leather jacket, so I decided to go with the classic design look on the classic black color on the classic Shinki horsehide. It turns out to...

    Johnson Leather Jacket

The communication with Damon wasn’t that bad for me. It took two weeks for him to respond on my initial inquiry, but after that, almost everyday to sort out all the measurements and design details until I completely satisfied. Once we committed to the design, he knocked out the muslin very...

    Johnson Leather Jacket

Finally received my Shinki JL jacket. Actually had to pick it up after two failed attempted deliveries by UPS. And thank you very much to @Canuck Panda for sourcing the Shinki leather to make this first custom jacket came true for me. Picked up from UPS center Box opening ceremony...

JOHNSON LEATHERS IN SAN FRANCISO STATUS?

Yea, that’s a good question to ask every leather jacket maker. I asked Damon about their business structure and he said that they still do wholesale for some brands in Japan. However, a majority of their business is still in retails. That Type 3 was size 38, so it’s a bit large for me, but I...

JOHNSON LEATHERS IN SAN FRANCISO STATUS?

Haha, you have really good eye there. That jacket is MHB-500 in cowhide. That the model they used to make for a brand in Japan. They don’t have that leather in stock now but could order it again. And while at the shop, I saw this jacket that the hide is very interesting. It’s horsehide that...

Anyone know what buyee charges for cost of shipping a leather jacket out to the us?

Thanks. So saving on shipping cost would ending up more costly on the tax and fees. It’s good to know this.

Anyone know what buyee charges for cost of shipping a leather jacket out to the us?

Follow up question regarding import tax and fee. If I purchase two separated items, $500 each, and choose to do combined shipping. Would the package be tax at $1000 for combined value going into California?

@red devil can you take a picture of the label on your jacket? I saw one popping up in the used market and the price seems like a great deal. Just wondering if “it is too good to be true” kind of deal. Thanks.
