My Search for a Mate is Confined to my Sock Drawer

Good post. I think I've reached that point myself, and it would take someone extraordinary to make me interested in being a couple.

Golden Era Movie suggestions for teens

The Longest Day, Bridge Over the River Kwai, there's a movie where Audie Murphy plays himself (he was a war hero), So Proudly we Hail...there are so many. Swing Kids is good, too, although it's about, but not from, the Golden Era.

"Beyond Glory": A Play about the Medal of Honor

This appeared in today's OpinionJournal. I have edited what appears below for length and political content. Faith and Fiber BY DANIEL HENNINGER Thursday, August 9, 2007 12:01 a.m. EDT ...the most cathartic experience I've had recently in matters of war or peace was seeing a stage...

    Bombshells playing ugly roles

Audrey Hepburn was miscast in Funny Face. Goldie Hawn played an overweight wretch in Death Becomes Her. The most startling example is Bette Davis in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?

    What's your favourite season?

I love the spring here--all three weeks of it. Everything is so green and beautiful. I don't understand when someone on the TV or radio says, "It's a gorgeous day!" when it's 102 and there's no shade. It's beautiful weather if you're a scorpion.

    Old Fashioned Men

Exactly. After all, who is the bigger fool: the fool, or one who would argue with him?

    The School Bully

When I look back on them now, I think, "OMG, these people were weird." They've probably been in a depression clinic or a drunk tank at some time since we last met.

    Artists in Film

Add Cyrano de Bergerac, the soldier-poet, to the list. :)

    Artists in Film

There was, of course, The Glenn Miller Story (I think it was called) starring Jimmy Stewart. Also a movie about Lon Chaney and another called Yankee Doodle Dandy (which is better than it sounds) both starring James Cagney. There was another movie about the life of Vincent Van Gogh, but I don't...

    Frustration with necklines

Aging? Our countenance is the mirror of the soul

I read this article at Jewish World Review and thought I'd share it. About Face By Rosally Saltsman Aging? Our countenance is the mirror of the soul At the bus stop the other day, an older man with a cane approached. His face radiated such jocularity and positivity, that I had an...

    Old Fashioned Men

My brother-in-law was, and is, an old-fashioned man with wonderful manners. You wouldn't think it to see him, but he's loyal, considerate and sensitive. As for being taken advantage of, let's just say he deserves a medal for having been married to my sister.

Books for women trying to find Mr. Right?

Considering the Source Relationship book authors have a wide variety of credentials. Barbara DeAngelis has a Ph.D. from a diploma mill and has been married five times. John Gray also has a degree from a diploma mill. As an aside, he was married to Barbara DeAngelis. It's not clear...

    Opinionated actors....SHUT UP!

This reminds me of an ad I read yesterday. It was an open letter to Vanessa Redgrave signed by several citizens of a village in Romania. (Ms. Redgrave had spoken out against a proposed mine there.) The letter asked Ms. Redgrave what she knew about their village, its history, mining, or their...

Sudden change can be a good thing.

My best friend is in exactly the same situation. However, her boyfriend had suggested that they get a house--with her name, his name and his brother's name on the title, but only her name of the loan! I'm sorry that she is moving away to be with her parents, but I'm glad she's unloading this creep.

    Been dropping the pounds.

I started doing Body for Life a few weeks ago after about six months following my accident and illness. I'm never hungry and I feel great. There are no clubs to join, I work out at home, and I didn't have to turn my life upside down. I work out about three hours per week. I did it for three...
