Don't you love how it's "older people" who expect to be asked if you want to take a few days off? You're either an authentic, socially adept adult who can call your own shots, or you're an old fuddy-duddy who has to be thrown a bone: "Well, Edith, I needed a few days to center myself, just so...
My coworkers have two volumes: loud and louder. I've grown so accustomed to it that silence at work is eerie. I'm not opposed to headphones in some cases, but I don't sit still long enough to use them.
The "just as nature intended" idea doesn't appeal to me. Even a child, left to its natural state, is a nuisance. While a wild rooster might not be trainable, a dog certainly is. It's important that we as a society train our dogs to be obedient and minimize their instinct to fight.
Why...
A Word from Cesar Millan, the Dog Whisperer
This is what dog trainer Cesar Milan has to say about dog fighting and abuse:
The first time I witnessed animal abuse was when I moved to Mazatlan as a child. It tore me up inside to see people throwing rocks at dogs and swearing at them. Later, as...
Put a dab of Queen Helen Mint Julep Mask on zits overnight. It helps dry them out.
I have more tips on treating acne, all over-the-counter, but they're all newfangled.
Ah, yes, the trial basis. So far I've gotten my trial dog a bed, a comb, a rabies shot, blood test for general health, heartworm medicine, and a microchip. I also have a, uh, little package to give to the vet. Serious commitment, indeed.
Did I mention that the dog is adorable? :D
Molly (the dog) and I we went to the vet yesterday. Molly is actually 45 pounds and the vet and her assistant believed that she is part golden retriever and part Australian shepherd or cattle dog. The Chesapeake Bay retrievers do look a lot like her, though. The vet said she might enjoy agility...
I think she is a chocolate lab mix. My father thinks she is an Irish setter. My neighbor is sure she's a golden retriever.
She has dark brown fur with blond highlights. (It sounds cute, but it just makes her look scruffy.) She also has pink lips, light brown eyes and webbed paws. She weighs...
I just adopted a small hunting dog. I don't hunt, it's just that the little dog bagged my heart! Anyway, my neighbor suggested I get a shotgun, some decoys and a smoking jacket to complete the picture. Any other suggestions?
A little :offtopic:
Well, I have a baby who just moved in--she's a small hunting dog of some kind, one year old. Her name is Goldie.
She loves to ride in the car, she's well mannered, and everyone who has met her loves her. But she's able to climb over the small section of chain link...
I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned that many violent criminals have gotten their start being cruel to animals. Of course, most animal abusers probably don't become criminals. Still, compassion is a more endearing trait than the need to whip a dog, either directly or vicariously.
Check this out: a man was going to have his dog--a one-year-old purebred chocolate lab--euthenized just because he was moving! The dog is now at a no-kill shelter.
