Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Good info rlk Tell me more... Having seen these, on the 'bay on & off for a few years, I have always wondered about their backstory. More details would have made them even more irresistible, I'm afraid! Still I'm sure I will regret this lost opporknockity for years to come. :eusa_doh:

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

From the quasi-mythical, pre-war "Sofia Stash" Please tell me someone here got this pair: Bulgarian Borso 1 Bulgarian Borso 2 ...and thank you. I was trying to rationalize buying these all afternoon & just couldn't, tho I dunno how much longer I could have not. :eusa_clap Nice...

Fedora hats are rarely sexy - or so does she think...

Indeed. The article says far more about its' author than about men in hats. She & some others are, at some level, to some degree, threatened by such a sight. I for one am sick of catering to the neuroses of others. My own are work enough!

    Newsboy: Hannah or Hat People?

I just know that when I get another one, I want one like I had as a teenager, c. 1974- i.e.- one w/ a nice thin leather sweat. Sorry, but satin or grosgrain just don't cut it. On top of that, real Harris tweed would be nice as well.

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

yeah, I love it & have been looking for another (as well as the neckties Mr. Hoyt made) for a while. This one was a bit too small and had pre existing condition issues (eg- torn band, Razor sharp pinch- no offence cb.) that I would've made worse if I stretched it. Killer hat w/ a great backstory...

    Hat protection

D'oh! :eusa_doh: CRAP... you are such a smartass. OK you got me. If I get caught in a summer rainstorm in a straw I WILL run like a little French schoolgirl for cover. If I know it's to rain I'll wear a cloth or oilcloth.

    The International Wool Felt Consortium

I like the analogy. Sounds like an SAT/ACT question: Steakums are to sirloin as wool felt hats are to: A. Fur felt B. a toupee C. Those crappy little fourteen dollar, poly/cotton, stingy brim, hipster doofus, skate puke, pinstriped or adorned with a skull or some other such B.S. trendy...

    Hat protection

Some here have strong feelings about using such on vintage hats, or, some, any hat. I have used it on some contemporary hats, my Federation III for example. Hatsdirect once offered it as an option, for a few bucks, on the Akubras they sold.

    Hat protection

A hat that is of no use to me in the rain is of no use to me at all. I never figured why Troopers would wear those rubbers on top of a hat as substantial as a Stratton. [huh]

    The International Wool Felt Consortium

I have never had a wool felt fedora that failed to disappoint, regardless of what they looked like in the photo. From what I understand fur ( especially beaver, nutria & wabbit/hare) is simply better suited to the production of fine felt. Something like more barbs on the hair shaft lending...
