I'll resurrect this old thread with a picture of my "perfect" desk. I know it probably isn't big enough to serve in a real office but it suits my Hawaiiana themed room quite well.
I've noticed that out of the 40 or so 30's & 40's vintage ties in my collection probably 80% are primarily brown or burgundy colored. These were found in various places so it doesn't just reflect the tastes of one owner whose collection I happened to find. I like other colors but burgundy &...
The Juneberry site that Feraud mentioned is a great place to start. Here's a few more urls. Hours of happy listening here:

I know he's recently deceased and all but I never could grasp the so-called brilliance of Captain Beefheart. He was beloved by male record store clerks everywhere but his music was always just a little too weird for weirdness sake for me.
If you're just beginning to look into this type of music almost anything on the Yazoo, Dust-to-Digital, Arhoolie, Field Recorder's Collective, & Old Hat labels is well worth looking into.
I was the music director for the local FM station for about 3 years and although my primary focus was jazz I had to listen to an awful lot (emphasis on awful) of incoming indie rock. I finally had to give it up because my personal tastes conflicted with the need of the station to stay...
I can agree with that. I was a music director at our local radio station for several years and, even though I had to listen to tons of bad music, there is still good music being made. Even though my musical tastes lie mostly in the 20's and 30's, it always gets my goat when someone like R...
Pardon me for going slightly off topic and not showing an actual tie here but I love this hand-painted display signage I found in a thrift store a couple years ago. You may have seen this before a few pages back in the context of my tie collection but I thought it deserved its own post. When I...
I'm not so sure that he did much for the careers of Arthur Crudup, Big Mama Thornton, etc. as singers. At best he might have gotten them royalties for their songs but the singers themselves remained pretty obscure. Once Elvis did a song in the 50's it was an Elvis song as far as most of the...
All right, since you asked, here's another bunch of ties from my thrift store finds.
Left to right: Haband, Arrow, "King Size" by Spur, "Sir" by Botany
Left to right: no tag, Wembley, no tag, "The Californian" by Sunshine
I guess I have to count myself among the thrift misers. I don't think I've ever paid more than a dollar for a vintage tie. I do go to an awful lot of thrift stores, yard & estate sales though. The bargains are still out there in the tie world. Not so much for vintage guitars unfortunately.
If I'd known about this earlier I would have posted it in events but, since my friend rode in it and I learned about it after-the-fact, I thought those of us from colder climates might enjoy seeing some people out in vintage garb on vintage bikes enjoying the California sunshine. Not all...
Twenty years ago they could still be found for cheap. Since you can't play them like an ordinary guitar people didn't know what to do with them. One guitarist found his hanging on the wall in an old lady's home with plastic flowers coming out of the sound hole. Unfortunately I missed those...
Here's a few favorites I picked up over the years in thrift stores. Most of these came from one thrift store in Covina, CA where they would put about 50 ties in a bag and sell them for $2.95. Since moving to Idaho I haven't been near so lucky. Vintage ties and Hawaiian shirts are much harder...
I guess one reason I've always been attracted to vintage advertisements is that my dad studied advertising in the 40's. Although he never went into it full time, he did do a bit of freelancing and I remember him being at the drawing board with his airbrush quite a bit when I was a kid. When...
