Which funny videos are you watching?

This funny video featuring Bob Dylan and Jenna Elfman. It is the last scene from a Dharma and Greg episode. She played Dharma. The joke is that Dharma told husband Greg that she was trying out for a band and invited him along. Thinking it was some of her hippie friends he begged off, and...

    Vintage toasters

I remember the old 50s streamlined chrome toasters. They were way better than anything you can buy today. Heavy, well built, and toasts the bread a lot faster than today's cheapies. But as others have pointed out they do wear out after 20 or 30 years of daily service. I know how to repair or...

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

Have paper matches gone to join the dodo birds and dinosaurs? It seems not so long ago you saw a box of paper matches or penny matches beside the cash register in every store and restaurant. They vanished when smoking in public places was banned. Now I can't even find them on the shelf at the...

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

The Toronto Transit Commission experimented with cheap street cars from eastern Europe. They cost half what a Canadian made car cost but lasted less than half as long. After 10 years they were shot to blazes! The chassis completely rusted through in some cases. They were used to cars that lasted...

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

There was a time when trolley cars and street railways were a profitable business. The profits began to fade away under competition from cars and buses in the 1920s. In a lot of areas the trolley system was owned by real estate developers as a way to get customers to buy houses in their outlying...

    Stars And Their Cars

Hal Roach and his stars in a Kissel Gold Bug sports car. Notice the rumble seat that slides out of the side of the car like a drawer, with footrest on the running board. What a place to sit at 80 miles an hour!

    What's for Dinner?

I must admit I have almost $10 worth of cheese etc left over so the cost is not as much as I said. I plan on making an extra pan and freezing it. Home cooking and baking might or might not save money but even if it doesn't it is a cheap hobby with many delicious and healthful benefits.

    Terms Which Have Disappeared

For no apparent reason today I remembered this anecdote.... I think it was the Arthur Godfrey radio program at least it was an interview program, that was sponsored by Sta Puf fabric softener. The host kept trying to work the sponsor's product into the conversation but his guest seemed to be...

    What's for Dinner?

Made a pan of home made lasagna tonight. It was really good but for meat, cheese, spinach and sauce I must have spent $20. I don't usually think in those terms but the lasagna came about because the store had lasagna noodles on sale. So I saved 50 cents on a box of noodles and it cost me $20 ha ha.

Vintage Car Thread - Discussion and Parts Requests

You might check the bushing on the transmission. It may be worn too. It is surprising how light and precise the old column shifts are, if worn parts are renewed and they are lubricated and working correctly.
