Advertising copy is notoriously full of poor grammar and English. I just read one sample marketing letter that read "literally stealing from us!" Sigh.
There's nothing wrong with being focused on the bottom line. But I think companies make a mistake when they emphasize service, and then skimp on payroll. Yes, you might get 100 resumes for a job listing; that doesn't mean you can replace one somebody with another somebody.

Golden Era Cures for Depression (even though you might just be in a rut)

My father (b. 1930) says that a lot of men came back from the war changed. Many of them took to alcohol and some lost their faith. Having seen Ken Burns' The War, I can see why: the fighting in the Pacific must have been the closest thing there has ever been to hell on earth.
I vaguely recall...
Well, that would make a person depressed.
As for your grandfather's behavior being due to being a POW, I don't know. Maybe it did. But a lot of ex-POWs don't do that, and a lot of two-timers have never seen military service.
Depressed? Have another baby!
A Boulder, Colorado man developed amnesia due to depression and went missing for two weeks.

In a way, it might be for the best that she sold them when she did. A lot of stuff gets stolen in nursing homes. My mother had most of her clothes stolen in the rehab center where she's staying--inexpensive Wal-mart clothes that someone probably got $1 apiece for.
When I was a new homeowner and was laid off from my job, I promised my dog I'd take care of him. I think having some responsibility is important--even having a houseplant you have to keep watered is good.
That was the case with Margaret Yates: she didn't say she was depressed (in 1944...
It's been two and a half months, for goodness sake. I'd do exactly as Vintage Betty said, and I'd cc the email to Etsy.
If this were a friend returning a book, it would be forgetfulness. But a vendor accepting payment and not bothering to make the shipment sounds like fraud.
Yes, I think counseling would help Kim, if she is ready to break out of some patterns that aren't serving her very well. Counseling may be very painful in the short term--it brings up all those problems that are making you depressed.
As for medication--I was always afraid it would turn a...
Here's another review from the October 16 edition of the Wall Street Journal (link requires subscription). The article's author is a fan of the book Etiquette, as am I (I have the 1940 edition). My favorite quote from the article:
"The way people treated others was more important than an...
I talked to someone last night and found out she herself (not Kim) was taking a prescription for depression/anxiety, and said it really helped. She told me when I said I'd seen a change for the better in her mood. Given her health and situation, she really cannot exercise heavily or throw...
Pearl Harbor, Exercise and Advice from the Tribal Elders
Thanks for all your responses. It's interesting that so many people mentioned exercise--a few years ago, I think there were some studies that came out that indicated that exercise was sometimes as effective as drugs in treating...
Sounds like a great costume, but I don't know if anyone but vintage enthusiasts would get it. (Even I would need it spelled out.)
A few years ago, I dressed up as a runaway bride, back when that woman disappeared right before her wedding, and then the police took her away. Nobody got it. [huh]
Thanks for all your helpful suggestions. I'll be calling Kim more often than I have been.
Kim has struggled with this before, but I'm not sure if she has ever tried a prescription. I do think her case is situational, for various reasons. I'll ask her if she has considered seeing a doctor...
I prefer antiques too; I just found them too expensive. I mean, $400 for a bookshelf? I paid $150 for the one I bought at Target. I've read that the price of antiques is going down, but I guess that trend hasn't hit Colorado.
