    Correct Telephone Habits

That was fascinating reading. Shows how much things have changed. When exactly does that document date from? My guess is the 1920s.

    Help with silver cocktail shaker

Hot water (possibly with some soap) is a wonderful lubricant for loosening up stuck and jammed things. I heartily recommend its use. Hallmarks are not always stamped in obvious places. I'd search the entire surface of the shaker, inside and out, before deciding that it isn't silver.

Show us your Thrift and/or yard sale finds

This is an eBay picture, but I bought one of these at a junk-shop a suburb away from where I live... it's a VELOS 24 "type-cleaner", for cleaning the slugs on your typewriter-bars. Basically, inside is a ball/bar of mouldable putty. You yank off a hunk, squeeze it into a sausage, and then...

Privacy in Modern Times -- Is it being obsoleted too?

I'm familiar with Oprah Winfrey. I just don't get what you're talking about in relation to her.

Privacy in Modern Times -- Is it being obsoleted too?

I'm generally a rather quiet person. I wouldn't say I'm introverted, but I prefer quiet gatherings of friends. I don't like noisy parties with dozens of people. A good feed, a nice drink and some witty conversation. That said, I do enjoy my privacy. There are some times where you just don't...

Show us your Thrift and/or yard sale finds

In Australia at least, we sell stuff at such shops really cheap so that lots of people will buy them. And the money that's raised goes to fund homeless-shelters, food-kitchens, laundries, dental-care, housing, etc., etc...

    A Question about Typewriter Ribbons

Hi Everyone, I'd appreciate your advice/input on something I might want to purchase. Long Story Short: I have the opportunity to buy a Remington #2 Portable. One of these things: Not that *exact* one, of course, but one of almost identical style. That's just there for illustrative...

    The Strange Irony of Existence

WWII brought my paternal grandparents together. They married in 1943, in the middle of the Japanese Occupation.

    What are you listening to?

Reflecting the impossible heatwave that we've got around here at this current moment in time, I am listening to the Rhythmic Eight, coming live from 1929, with... "Tain't No Sin" (To take off your skin, and dance around in your bones) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NY209IVtJmE

    Shave of the Day

...Do you shave the cat, too? I'll be honest. Those electric vibrating rotating swiveling "razors" scare the hell out of me. I would never let one anywhere near my face. I'll stick to my Rodgers straight razor, thank you very much.

What pens are we carrying today?

I feel sorry that you had to experience that, David. For the most part, pen-collectors/users, and even pen-collectors/collectors are very nice people. it's not easy explaining our passions to those who don't understand, and so I personally wouldn't waste my time trying to explain, or justify...

    Boater faction!

This is the first time I've heard of a hat being referred to as 'crispy'. Is it a boater, or a loaf of bread? :D
