    "Friends of the Poloshirt"

Nuvolari was a racer pure and simple. Enzo Ferrari always said that he was his favourite driver, and Ferrari ran the Maserati team in the thirties before he bought it out after the war and used it as the basis of his own team. I read in a biography of his once that when he was a motorcycle racer...

    "Friends of the Poloshirt"

Same here. I don’t really like T shirts and prefer a polo shirt under a jacket in summer, and on its own if it’s too hot for a jacket.

    "Friends of the Poloshirt"

Nuvolari was always a favourite of mine and his drive in the German GP of 1935 was the stuff of legend. But Fangio was IMO the greatest. When you think that he came into GP racing at the age of forty when most were retiring and won five World Championships... He was racing self prepared Fords in...

    distressing leather jacket

Personally I don’t see the point of buying a new jacket and trying to make it look worn out. When I was young the first thing I used to do with new leather jackets was to kick them up and down in the gutter for an hour and jump up and down on them. But now I like jackets to be broken in and...

    US Authentic (flightjacket.com) A2 fit.

My favourite authentic fit picture. Of course they were wearing it as a utility jacket as a part of the uniform and took what the quartermaster gave them. But we wear jackets like these because we like the look of them mostly.

    US Authentic (flightjacket.com) A2 fit.

Most makers of A2 Type jackets quote 4” over your true chest size for a good fit and less if you don’t want to wear even a light sweater under it. G&B’s 10” to 12” is massive if that really is what they spec. My issue with this type of jacket has away been tight armholes if the jacket fits on...

    Borgward?

That was the DKW which I mentioned above which was quite common in Kenya in the fifties. Pretty little cars in an ugly duckling sort of way and surprisingly tough. The VW was seen a lot there too at that time.

    Borgward?

Nice. Would that have been standard paint at the time? Can’t recall ever seeing two tone paint on one before. I always liked the fast back on the saloon version. Reminded me a bit of my then boyhood dream car which was a Mulliner R Type Bentley Continental.

    Borgward?

From memory Peugeot 203s did well and placed in a couple of Safari rallies in the fifties. It was called the Coronation Safari rally then. They were very popular cars. Another car which was surprisingly common was the little DKW, and I think that won a Safari Rally at the time. Surprisingly...

    Borgward?

I remember the cars well and I always liked the look of them when I was a kid. I went to school in East Africa in the fifties and they were very popular there. Cars had to be tough to deal with the mostly unmade roads, and Mercs and Australian GM subsidiary Holden, and Peugeot 203s were popular...

    AL - Simmons Bilt!

I wonder how many have been looking at this and the other thread marvelling at the AL haters frothing at the mouth and rending their garments though, rather then taking the message that you want them to take from it? It must be a sort of backhanded complement to have people starting threads just...

    Aero Leather Clothing trial update

Apologies to the members who responded to my comments last night, but I skimmed them very quickly and didn’t find them interesting enough to reply to individually. But do keep up the good work. You’re doing a marvellous job and I’ll look in again at some point to see how you’re getting on. But...

    Aero Leather Clothing trial update

Same sad comments above from the same sad people a couple of whom did their best to bully vendors they didn’t like off this site. I thought they gave you a holiday after how you posted on BK threads. As to the rest of the nonsense above.... Are you taking anything for this?

    Aero Leather Clothing trial update

In her evidence Mrs Lauder said that her husband had always collected leather jackets and had a large collection when she married him. Nowhere is it stated that she benefited from them or any other activities he may or may not have been involved in. All you have written is supposition based...

How do you know any of that? What an unpleasant post, and how in keeping with your others.

    Aero Leather Clothing trial update

A couple of days ago one of the more egregious posters here opined that his wife deserved to have problems paying her mortgage now her husband is banged up because she married him after he sacked her from Aero. I paraphrase but the gist of it was she deserved all she got.

    The Return of Mascot Leathers

Still mainly has the original meaning of catamite in the US I believe, and is still used that way. So it’s considered a profanity, and US based websites do filter those out very effectively.

No, he didn’t. He knew that the trial was over, and he made it quite clear that he thought the level of comment on this thread was not in keeping with the standards of politeness and fairness which the F L was known for. It wasn’t him who opened the thread again. I see nothing aggressive...

    Aero Leather Clothing trial update

+1 I haven’t read any of this thread since I last posted on it several hundred years and pages ago, and only really come to the Fedora Lounge to look at the classifieds these days anyway. But I looked up the thread at the last few pages just now and I thought it had reached a new low. They...
