And no modern mfg uses the mercury fulminate for priming compound anymore, either. And that also wasn't banned for health concerns, but because the resulting priming compound was really corrosive on small arms barrels. Now they use, for the most part, a lead styphnate based priming...
We had some other people comment on our hats last weekend, too. We went out to eat and our waitress asked why I was so dressed up, and said she really liked our hats.
At church, more and more people are saying something about my hats. The young man who took my daughter to prom had told...
Well, the rain came back with a vengeance last night... actually, about 2 a.m. this morning. Away with the white hats and the straw and back with the top coat and the felt hats. Today with the Penman Everyman in Granite.
I've seen where a company will phase in new "parts" and still be using up some older inventory while putting things together. Maybe you've got a real late 50's, like 1959-1/2, or a real early 1960's hat there, Jim. In any event, it's a winner!
Y'all continue to seriously impress!
Another nice day in the Pacific NW, so a subdued silk Hawaiian shirt and the Vintage Silhouettes Silvermist/Burgundy (removable satin liner) for today.

I'd love to get into some nice Specs. I just love the look, and have no idea what I'd even wear them with. Cream, beige or tan pants? Chinos, corduroy, khakis, worsted wool/linen???
Brown/cream, black/cream, oxblood/cream??? The endless possibilities overwhelm.
Bringing up an old thread. I recently reviewed a bunch of tie knots after a guy I know moved back from Brazil and showed up wearing a fairly wild tie knot at church. I didn't want to copy it, as it's just a bit too edgy for my taste, but I took another look at knots I stopped using ever since...
If you're extra tall, have a big neck, or the tie material is rather thick, you'll have to either buy a longer tie or use a knot other than the Windsor.
I read up on about 10 or 12 knots that have been used over the decades and settled on the Four In Hand, which my father taught me as a boy of...
Mrs Fed and I went to see my daughter in the play Our Town. As we walked toward the community theater, I looked at the 60's - 70's ??? Champ MrsFed was wearing. It had a nice little center dent, but the front brim was up and no side dents. So I said, you need a little snap in that brim. I...
