Classic firearms of the classic era.

My one and only true classic, as opposed to a modern version of a classic, is my Marlin 39, a .22 rifle my grandfather gave me. 4 digit serial number and octagonal barrel. Now that I think about it, my grandmother did give me a Young American .32 revolver when I went to law school, saying I...

    Vintage Concealed Weapons

I wouldn't mind lining a pocket of an overcoat or such, but not my suit pants! Maybe this is why my grandfather had a fondness for .25 autos. They were smaller and easier to pocket carry. BTW, he was a dentist, and was robbed once for drugs just after WWII. He never went unarmed again.

    Vintage Concealed Weapons

I'm using and Uncle Mike's pocket holster as we speak. ;) And, I guess if I truly wanted to be vintage, I should lock up by Bodyguard and go find an appropriate Det. Special. Anyone know when they started making the hammer shrouds for the Special? Are they vintage.

    What are you wearing today??

Today, I'm wearing a charcoal grey double-breasted suit (I don't know the labels), a white button-down oxford, a pair of black Florsheim oxfords(highly polished), black belt, and a black and grey patterned tie. Watch is my Tissot. Wedding ring. Right now, I'm also wearing my black robe on top...

    Vintage Concealed Weapons

Before this thread dies, and back to the point, does anyone pocket carry a firearm while in good clothing (read: a suit)? I;ve been doing so for some time, and noticed thatit's starting to take a toll on the pockets. I'me using a thin nylon holster for my Bodyguard (Smith 649), and the only...

Classic firearms of the classic era.

Yesterday, I was talking with a lawyer friend, and we got to discussing out mutual admiration for some of the classic .380 handguns. Walther PP/PPK, Mauser, Colt. This led to a discussion of firearm design. Back in the classic days, firearms were made for both function and appearance...

    A Hat for Camp

Back in my day, I had a red beret with the all green uniform. When they went to khaki over olive, the beret went away, and I didn't get another official hat until our whole troop bought matching olive Ranger hats. well, with the votes in, I guess I'll be shopping for two hats. A campaign...

    A Hat for Camp

In a couple of months, I will don my adventuring gear and head off to camp with my Scouts. As you can no doubt sense, I'll be facing great danger along the way. ;) What I need are some suggestions for a hat to wear at camp. I'm partial to the Indy type fedora, but frankly expect that June...

Show Us Your Pedigree! The Heritage Thread.

On my father's side, we've traced back to the Hohenzollerns in Prussia, with the family coming to America right before WWI. On my mother's side, all German, until they got to America and a great-great gandfather fell in love with an Apache woman, adding some variety to the history.

    Vintage Concealed Weapons

AS a poor law student, headed off to the city to engage in your studies, im sure your grandfather would have pulled you aside and handed you his Colt Single Action Army that kept him safe all those years, to keep yourself safe. What year are you in?

Short Sleeved Dress Shirts With a Suit?

Another magistrate and I are arguing about the appropriateness of wearing a short sleeved dress shirt with a suit, or even with a blaser and tie. I don't believe that it's appropriate. In fact, when I see a short sleeved dress shirt with a tie and jacket, I just cringe. He's all for it...

    The "Secret Service"/"MIB" Suit

Don't forget the shoes! Laces, no loafers. Probably a cap-toed oxford, black, with a high shine. Maybe even spit-shined for that military-edge to the look.

Cincinnati a mecca for lovers of art deco

Born and raised in the Cinci area. There's quite a bit of history around if you can find it. Last time I was at Union Terminal/The Museum Center, they had an exhibit on Cincinnati during WWII. Anyone know if it's still there? It was a great exhibit. And, if you go visiting Cincinnati, take...

    G-Man action shooting

My grandfather lived next to a retired law man from back in the late 30's, early 40's. he showed me his guns once. Started his career with a Colt Singe Action Army in .45, switched to a Smith and Wesson .357 Magnum in the early 40's. He kept a cut down double barrelled shotgun and a...

    G-Man action shooting

Sounds like a blast to me. (Pun intended). While I've always had an interest in CAS, I could never justify the investment in guns, gear, and clothing. This version, the clothing is in the closet, one gun is in the safe, and others would not break the budget too badly, and gear could be...

    Berets, Anyone?

Part of the uproar about the general issue beret in the Army was the choice of the black beret, which had previously been designated as headgear for Rangers. That's how mine was issued to me. Dark green was for the SF boys. Maroon/red to the 82nd Airborne. I believe in the past, the 101st...

If you were told "pick one album to explain what being in love is"...

NO particular albim comes to mind, but several songs... Wicked Game...Chris Isaak I'm the Only One...Melissa Estheridge A song from the movie "Blackhawk Down", "Gortoz A Ran - J'Attends" a song in Breton (the language), I believe a Celtic dialect. The words, as translated, and the music...
