    Vintage Workwear- Modern Work?

Sorry, I didn't know this difference. I completelly misunderstood the meaning of the original post. "Work clothes" would be in Portuguese "roupa de trabalho" - the clothes you use to work, whatever you do. From policeman's uniform, the office-boy casual clothes, etc, to the suits of the...

"I want to feel like a new man"

Very interesting article. Of course he choosed the a very expensive taylor, something I think I would never do. But the meanings inside, about been with a suit, etc, is very interesting. I never will understand why you can't today go to the theater, or movies, with a suit - as this would...

    Vintage Workwear- Modern Work?

For men, at least, vintage clothes aren't so different than today fashions - if you use a suit. There are differences, of course - but not so strong. Really good suits are still using the same types of fabric. The only thing that really is different is the hat.

Photography in 30s - the LEITZ Style

Leitz soon started to make a multitude of accessories, always very well made. Most of it is about macro photography and to copy documents. The old leica had two viewfinders. One to take focus with the rangefinder (two images must coincide when in focus), with a magnification of 1,5x. And...

How Old Are The Members of The Fedora Lounge?

I will get one of these Websters... It's not all uncommon here the model 80. Certainly it is not very practical... Specially when you would want to "edit" the recordings, as with the reel-to-reel tape. But always a pleasure to see a Webster working (I have two turntables made by Webster, with...

How Old Are The Members of The Fedora Lounge?

If I remember well, wire records were created and produced by Webster Co, from Chicago, around 1940... Charlie Parker recorded a few things in one of these. And had a good sound, indeed! The reel-to-reel was a German developement. Never heard a 8-track working... And saw the a recorder...

Photography in 30s - the LEITZ Style

From the very beginning miniature photography meant "candid photography". And "candid" are those photographies showing people, life, as it is. Photography showing our times, people in unposed images. Life as life really is. Soon ever those highly prepared and retouched fashion illustrations...

    Time Warp

Very good question! About me. I like the style, the culture, the daily way. I came inside 30s and 40s by movies, photography, music. When became adult, then I started to look around another things. More human contact than we can find today. The ways to individuality in clothes, etc - not...

Is there something you really want to wear but are chicken?

I enjoy using hats, have two. I think they go well with me, as use suits everyday. But usually I turn shy about hats, with people really looking to me as an alien when I'm with one of them by day.

    Unpopular music opinions

Long time ago I readed (part of) a book from 71 or 72... I tought the author's ideas just too crazy. All jazz was African-American - any white (or influence of white musician) means against the jazz. And I became really surprised about the true hate he had about Scott Joplin because "european...

    Public Enemies

Here in São Paulo City we had a criminal in 40s and 50s called Hiroito Joanides. His "business" were drugs, prostitution and protection for little criminals. After, in jail, he became a good writer. His autobiography is very interesting. And with plenty of details and photos (all took from...

    Unpopular music opinions

That's true. But in all interviews I readed he used to show himself as a genius looking for the perfection (ao so did things not so good in his own opinion) and Miller as a man "who never made mistakes" - because just stayed with the public wanted to make more money. OK, Miller looked a lot for...

    Unpopular music opinions

Certainly he was great on ballads! My preferred are his records of "Alone Together" and "Stardust". It was (and is) a big sucess those by Gramercy Five, but I really prefer the whole orchestra records. Helen Forrest... A shame that few people remember hers. But I always remember her...

    Unpopular music opinions

Artie Shaw had great bands - I like a lot his orch in beggining of 40s. And, of course, he was a great player. But his interviews are just irritating. The world would be better if he used to talk less and play more... His habit to talk against Miller always made me to play Miller's records...

    What are you listening to?

Just got yesterday my parent's visit - and with them around 200 78s recordings. From jazz orchestras to brazilian popular music of 30s and 40s. Jazz orchestras mostly by Glenn Miller. I'm listening them now. (a lot too of music sheets, from my grandfather! Mostly Harry Reser own music and...

    Unpopular music opinions

Noble is just great, wonderful! And the Dorsey Bros Orch, that Miller helped with arrangements and playing trombone, is one of my favourites. But Miller had a great civil orchestra. Of course he recorded some things not-so-good - but all bandeleaders did this, didn't they? And the...

"The man in black who never smiles": how to build a great collection and not enjoy it

I know a camera collector who hardly knows how to make focus. He shoots with a little digital point&shoot. But has one of the most compreensive camera collections I know. And no one is allowed to ever put hand in any.

    fountain pens

Wonderful pens at this thread! Love fountain pens - ever if my texts become a little dirty, as I'm left handed... My everyday use pen is a Parker 51. Parker 61 is prettier, but its system of filling isn't so good.
