Agreed. Many years ago, once I stopped being picky about hours, days and type of work, and was willing to pick up and go where the work was, I didn't have any trouble finding a job. The rest of my family--same thing, even in the Depression. At that time, my dad's father, a blacksmith, got a job...
OK. California is a tough place to make it. Colorado has a lot of California transplants who couldn't afford to live there, but are doing fine here. Just as there are entire industries where you'll always be struggling, there are cities and states like that, too.
In case anyone is interested...
"I take issue with people who seem to say 'Im doing fine, I live in my means. This wouldnt have happened to you if you lived in your means'." -Lady Day
I say the following having landed on my feet after many layoffs with nobody to support me. I've spent all my savings a few times, scraped...
I read an article on Renn the other day. She's a size 12.
Miss N is right about not being able to tell eating habits based on appearance. Me--I'm a size 6 or 8 and I'm always eating. Several years ago, I was 10 or 15 pounds heavier than I am now, but was constantly Hungry.
I saw some beautiful winter coats at Ross. One was a double breasted military style, which is supposed to be big this year; another had a furry collar.
Somehow, I've never seen this before. (According to the video, it's because I never travel to New York by ship.) Of all the 9/11 memorials I've seen, both proposed and actual, this one hits the right note. Thanks for posting, Foofoogal.

In 2004, I wore a cute swing dance outfit and Democrat and Republican pins. I was a swing voter.
In 2003, I dressed up as Carmen Miranda.
In 2002, I dressed up as Marge Simpson.
My employer sends an automated response to email applicants saying that we regret we cannot respond to every applicant, but we wish them success and will contact them if we're interested. In all fairness, I cannot see why any more response is needed for applicants who have done nothing but send...
Hemp
Smoking industrial hemp won't make you high. Almost every time I tell someone my hat is made of hemp, they say, "Oh, so you can smoke it!"
In WWII, the US government produced a film called Hemp for Victory.

I have a yellow scarf I wear as a sash over a sweater. I can get away with wearing colors I like, but wouldn't normally look good on me, if I wear them as a belt or sash.
About half the people in my immediate family are or were of that mold: hates school and authority. Only two of us finished high school. Almost all of us will work very hard at any job--we just won't do it for a jerk.
Not that troublemakers shouldn't be expelled: working at a crummy job will...
It's nice for a company to send at least a postcard. On the other hand, we get so many resumes that we can't answer them all. (Of course, we send a letter to anyone we interview.)
When we advertise for an admin position, 99% of the resumes we get are from people who don't have any of the...
OK--I don't think I would save money by sewing. I've tried sewing and I'm not good at it. It takes me a ridiculous amount of time, makes a big mess, the thing still might not fit right, and it looks homemade. And I could buy something at a thrift store or new at Ross for the same price or less...
Same here. I know you can buy sewing supplies on sale, but you can buy clothes on sale, too.
I buy new instead of vintage. Vintage clothes usually don't fit me, and some of the vintage clothes I've bought have pretty quickly sprung holes and tears. So it's new classic or VI for me.
I just watched Stand and Deliver. It's about a man who quits a good-paying job to teach inner-city kids. He teaches calculus to East L.A. kids whom he convinces to come to school during the summer, early mornings and over Christmas break; it's not clear why most of the kids do so. The movie was...
