Upon further inspection, it has been determined that the jacket is actually an original Poughkeepsie Leather Coat Co. A-2, given the characteristics of the large collar ring snaps, pocket shape, olive stitching, etc.
Given that the jacket is mis-labeled and is actually a Poughkeepsie with the...
I've acquired a number of jacket over the past few months and it is time to thin out the collection.
This is an original No-Name (S.H. Knopf) 42-18236-P A-2. The waist band and cuffs were replaced at one time with and accurate bi-weave cuff (I would say somewhat recently), as has the zipper...
Odd coincidence...I had a Cable about 20 years ago that is identical to your description, the finish was almost completely gone aside from the "protected" areas under the collar, in the pockets, etc., and it too, was a very light brown with no hint of a red/russet and nothing like a seal brown...
Hear, hear! My primary criticism or dissatisfaction with many reproduction jackets vs. originals--the finish is just not the same and consequently, neither is performance, particularly in the rain.
I bought it based on my Goodwear United Sheeplined A-2, size 46 as well as my other originals at size 46 wich fit me well. Yes, in hindsight I should have asked for specific measurements, but I assumed it would be cut to a wartime 46, which fits me well. Actually this would probably fit well...
1965 Alpha MA-1 with the reversible orange lining. Nearly perfect, no snags, no pilling, nothing. Aside from the name written on the hanger, no marks.
$200 shipped in the CONUS or trade up for A-2 jacket (Eastman, Aero, Goodwear, Original) in size 44-46.
Shoulder Seam across back: 19.5"...
I would also be willing to trade up or down for Eastman, Aero, Goodwear, or original A-2s in an approximate size 44.
Let me know what you have!
The jacket that fits me best has this set of measurements (Goodwear United Sheeplined tagged a 46):
23.0": Pit to Pit
18.75": Shoulders
22.75"...
I never got back on this one. I washed the jacket in cold water with a little Woolite. Smoke smell came out and the jacket is spotless. Maybe it will suffer something 20 years from now, but as far as I can tell it is no worse for the wear!
Goodwear Monarch A-2, veg tanned, aniline dyed, light russet horsehide, size 46. A simply beautiful and stunning jacket. Unworn except for trying it on. Still smells new. $850 shipped in the US.
For reference I am 5'8" and 165 lbs with a 42-43" chest. The jacket is just a little too big...
It is like comparing apples and oranges; they are both fruit and sweet, but entirely different. I will try to explain...
I come from a car restoration background. In that arena, there is something called an over-restored vehicle, one where the restoration surpasses the quality, fit and finish...
I would think that would be perfect as that was the exact same size (except for a 32" waist) I was when I bought my other LW Dubow A-2. The sleeves should be fine--the measurement does not include the knit. It was one of the things I likes about the fit of the Lost Worlds A-2s; the sleeves...
A very nice Willis & Geiger A-2 flight jacket, size 40, although it fits and measures out much larger than a typical size 40 A-2 and fits nearly like a 44 in the upper shoulders. May be horsehide but is most likely steerhide as most of the horsehide W&G A-2s I have seen are a lighter brown, but...
An extremely nice Lost Worlds, J.A. Dubow, A-2 jacket, stand collar design, size 42. This jacket has the extra bonus of having a spring loaded Crown zipper puller, although the zipper itself matches the Talon zipper on my other Lost Worlds Dubow A-2s. This jacket is the fourth Lost Worlds Dubow...
