I've been in contact with Whites and while they can provide what I'm looking for in sizing, sole and appearance, they stated vegetable tanned leather wasn't available. The search continues.

I'm not having any success in getting vendors to reply, I do know a excellent seamstress and if I can source patterns & materials, I might give this try.

Good move on the Vintage purchase. I have a pair of Black Hi-top Connys in the closet, wore them in the delivery room, the day my son was born.......34 years ago. The USA made ones were classics, mine still look great, I figure they're about 35 years old. Just for grins, what are the vintage...
Well, I never did find a discount coupon so decided to wait to purchase my Cruiser till next fall. I have other intended purchases this spring/summer and could not see the point in letting a cold weather coat sit for 6-7 months right after purchasing.

Just wondering, did you file a warranty claim with Frye on the issues mentioned? Reason being, after researching everything I can find, I'm looking twice at the Logan Cap Toes as they seem to check all the boxes for me.

GregO,
Thanks for the information, I appreciate it. Any idea on if the leather on the Iron Rangers is vegetable tanned or not? It would be a shame to have to have new soles attached to a new boot in order to gain some margin of safety in winter although if the Iron Ranger fits the bill in all...
I'll have to agree with the older Pendletons running a bit small. I have both a new one and an old one in the same size. The washable one's while not made in the USA (They should be) do wash very nicely and are comfortable. My "Trail' model is in the Green w/ slight flecks of brown has the...
Andy,
I've a passion for good espresso and this is one field where a blend can be a great thing........:cool:Back to tanning, I'm pretty alert when it come to chemicals and how they're used in different industries. After perusing this thread, I doubt I'll ever look at a leather item the same...
I think the "LL Bean" boot's Munson last gives the boot the comfort we're both experiencing. I agree, good solid support is a great thing:o as I'm no kid either. *As a add on to my original post on this thread, I'm really trying to go the Vegetable tanned leather route this time in a cap-toe...
Oh well, thanks regardless. Since it's towards the end of the season for winter wear, I was hoping to avoid paying the full amount. Perhaps by doing so though, I'll avoid any price increases in the fall.

Andy,
Great write-up.
While I've never been under any illusion that Horsehide wears any better or worse than Cowhide or any other hides for that matter, I do feel it was used more so in different periods of time on different types of jackets/coats. It has a distinct look and feel and for me...
Thanks for the information. I'll look into the makes mentioned. I need to be careful with boot weight as I have a bum ankle from a M/C accident years ago. Also heel height is a concern for me when walking a lot with some boots. I'm currently wearing a pair of "LL Bean" toe cap boots purchased...
Thanks for all the information. I went into Bakers and was able to build a boot, that said, i need to check on some of the options for clarification. Thanks also for the thread link, There's a pair pictured there which is really close to my specs. I'm only 15 pages in though so need to...
